I'm still waiting for the "heavier than usual" hurricane season they were all predicting in the spring. Then again Sandy clobbered us on October 29 & 30 last year...

Long term forecasting is still an art more than a science. More than a week out is no more than an educated guess. Look at Karen last week.

Agreed, I'll know the blizzards comin when I see it. They can't predict weather from one day to the next, there is no way I'm buying what they '"think" may happen in the next months. It was suppose to be flooding rain, 45 mph winds today, awful, awful nor'easter. While Atlantic City had some minor flooding, it barely rained here at all. I spent a few hours re stacking one of my piles yesterday so I could throw a few tarps down to protect them from all the rain....waste of my time!!

Looks like they played it safe with us. You have a 90% chance of getting it right by saying we'll be wet in the winter.

And it didn't take a psychic to look out the window today and call a mild start around here.

My main weather guy here, Doug Hill, calls it pretty good. But he doesn't venture out past a week. He nailed it on the soaking we have been going through the last two days.

Lucky you. Our local CT guys cannot get it right! I think they probably just make stuff up and hope for the best.

Today was supposed to rain all morning with overcast skies and a mid-60s high. It was sunny, low 70s, and not a drop of rain. And this type of disparity is pretty typical! ;)

At least when I lived in South Florida they always got it right. Then again the forecast was the same every day: Sunny, with highs in the mid-90s, with a 20% chance of afternoon showers.

I think Doug has learned over the years. His forecast usually pretty much looks like the one from NOAA and they have been really, really accurate for our weather here for the last few years.

It is in the mid 50s tonight. Feels so much warmer.
