I see a lot of posts on where can I get the cheapest price on chimney pipe. I had a new Lennox grand view and chimney installed last week by a small town dealer in northern Wisconsin. I am one that never pays to have anything done but for some reason I didn't feel like dragging a 500 pound stove in and climbing 26 feet up to the second story of the house for the chimney. So I says bring the stove out put it here and 3 hours later its done. They gave a 10 percent discount off total if paid in full when installed. When the dust settled I thought I'd see how much I would of saved if I did it myself and bought all the pipe online. To my surprise the online prices were within pennys of what he charged me. Makes me feel good that I could support my local small town dealer get great service and didnt pay extra to do it.

Good for you. I always try to give the local guy a chance on everything. I also avoid walmart ;lol .

In the case of stoves and related stuff, I don't have many choices around here. Actually, none less than an hour away. Loses the 'local' feel at that point.

I think stove shops might price things a lot like car dealerships do. When I bought my Jotul F600 with a majolica brown enamel finish I paid $3150 for the stove and $480 for the Olympia SS flex liner, oversized top plate, rain cap, 12" top plate (that I used to help fabricate my block off plate, and SS T-connector. I was quoted $800 for a chimney cleaning and installation, but ended up doing those tasks myself. Getting back to my car dealership analogy. I negotiated the stove price down a bit, but maybe I didn't drive as hard a bargain as the store would have taken. As a result, perhaps they gave me a little better deal on the chimney kit than they would have otherwise. Just a thought.

Sounds good when all goes well.

My mom had someone come install a class A Hart and Cooley chimney , installed a enclosed chase thimble in the ceiling where there should have been a ceiling thimble with insulation shield. Never connected to stove. Looks like hell and the room air travels right through it. The town inspector signed off on it and the installer claims if the inspector signed off it's good.
Good luck getting Hart and Cooley online to find the right parts to do it right. They sell through dealers and distributors only and good luck trying to buy from a dealer who wants to install his parts.
