We are gonna hit that number tomorrow - so it's time to turn on the wayback machine and have some fun - and also bless some of the good souls who have made this place what it is!

Let's start with a BB suggestion.....the first post of our modern forum system! This occurred in 2005 and was by Mo Heat (one of our original good guys and mods).......note that Corie is in this post! He was probably in college for engineering at the time - now he's worked for Englander and Harman (currently)....

Wow, a lot of history. A lot of good times. A lot of helping people and sitting around the hearth. Follow this thread for a day or two (or post your memories)......

OMG!! i love that "stone age" image! you been around that long craig?;lol i see ya up top now in the rocking chair with the missus and you don't look like you've aged all that much ==c but you did apparently shave

anyway, congrats my friend on a big milestone, every time i log in i know im among friends, and you my friend are the reason why. you are truly a credit to the industry that i love so much.

Speaking of Credit, the next one goes to another of our early moderators and prolific posters...and a gatherer of information.

That is, the famous Gooserider! He held one of the first Hearth.com meetups at his place and posted a bunch of the stickies and wiki articles here. He still checks in once in while and we saw him two years ago at the Woodstock Bash.

Unfortunately, he had a bad accident with a tree falling and needed to spend more time attending to himself and his own life in general....so we lost a top mod.

agreed, i recall goose being here literally any time i logged in, i remember when he had his accident, its always a shame when bad things happen to good people, and goose, well, he's good people.i hope he is doing well
 
SInce I can only have this fun for another day or two, here's another early day milestone.....

In 2006 or so, we were contacted by Kiplinger Magazine to do a article on wood heat!
HEY, I pimped Woodstock in that article! Classy......jotul, quad and some others too. It featured a full page photo of yours truly loading a stove.......taken by a pro the mag sent up from NYC.

We were certainly stirring up some trouble in the industry. Most manufacturers frowned on dealers communicating too closely. I even received a call from the CEO of one of the biggest stove companies....saying (informally) "C'mon, Craig, am I gonna have to sue you?"

At that point I knew we were doing something right!
 
Ah, as another quickie "Hearth.com Historical Moment" - Corie (above) and Hogwilz did a couple jobs for folks who had little or not money - bringing wood heat to some folks in need......

We called it "Help from the Hearth" and also "The Donor Program"

As I remember, one of the big chimney companies came through with the pipe. Hog drove down there and climbed the LONG ladder and helped install the pipe......

A very gracious effort - a few stoves were dug up and given away.

A year later, Hearth.com folks ponied up for Corie to fly to the Reno Trade Show and achieve the first step in his lifetime dreams- to enter the stove biz as an engineer!

To those just checking in recently, imagine this. A kid (at the time) going to Villanova (top college) for engineering who wanted to go into making stoves! I think we are talking one-of-a-kind.

here's what has been the standout thing for me (and my company) when i first started posting in here the reputation of my products wasn't what it is today ("junk from the big box", no support etc.) this site has given me the opportunity to work on changing that "institutional" thought. without this site that "institutional" thought would still be the norm.

its allowed me to express the quality that our stoves are built with, and to learn a boatload about the rest of the industry as far as products go i suspect all of the "big box" stoves (even my competition ) has benefited from this.

truth be told, there are a lot of quality stoves on the market (i'd say nearly all of them) even vozelgang has progressed form the "death box" to some pretty respectable products over the last couple years. that said will we ever take over the market, probably not, the "high end" stoves are still stunning to look at and perform wonderfully, but our "niche"in the market isn't as poisoned by that "big box junk" mantra as much anymore. this makes me happy as im extremely proud of the products we put out there. as im sure the guys elsewhere in the industry are. nice to be on a more level playing field.

Well, short story long.....we would have hit it but I erased a couple useless posts...no use counting "I like beer mixed with sawdust" as part of our legacy!

But we did just pass 1,000 online members and guests for the first time a few minutes ago. That's a new high...by quite a bit.
Lots of new folks too, which is the real idea here. A new generation!

I expect to pass the 1.5 by noon or so Monday.
