It is time for my uglies to shine. I will be sending a few into the heavens tonight. This is just one of the finest ones in my collection.

Now that's one Uglie !

I might get some of our uglies tomorrow to burn in the stove this week. Don't have too many of them though.

I too have very few uglies this year. Only have about 10 cu feet of them left....and lots of little branches. Not much shoulder season wood left.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder lol! I've been burning my "uglies" lately too to get rid of them but I prefer to call them "chunks" or "cookies" as I don't want to hurt their feelings! ;lol :p

Doesn't burning them hurt their feelings?

I'll be through my shoulder season wood in a week or two. Pine walnut, some oak that is a bit punky, some maple, and a few random chunks/uglies. Of course with the recent cold spell I've switched to more of my multiple year seasoned oak, especially for overnights.

^:)^

Praise be to the hard-working uglies, they don't get the recognition they deserve as they weight down the top cover on my stack, nad alternately get soaked then dried then soaked again.

One could almost get attached to these weirdly shaped, gnarled and twisted pieces of tree

EWWW !....that is ugly, but is gonna burn beautifully

The uglies actually are a great burning lot. Their odd shapes and varieties make for a plethora of stove jamming action.

Nothing Ugly there. I live for the odd shapes and sizes. Makes for fun burns

I have a cast iron chiminea I've been burning the uglies in while I split. Split wood get hot, stop and drink beer, feel cool go to fire...repeat as needed. Wood=locust Beer= Brooklyn/BluePoint.

that's so ugly it's purdy...

That's a beauty, did you name it? ;) Been burning some 3 year dried Cedar uglies that just never made the firepit this year for the "shoulder" weather. Forgot how hot, fast and clean they burn. Plus I get the cedar smell while i'm outside hauling! Moving on to Maple uglies now, then it's on to the Beech and Oak!

I always enjoy burning the uglies. Makes me feel like I'm cleaning up the place. I try to burn everything from processing and watching the uglies often gets me through the shoulder season.

I think that happened when we calld it ugly!

I'm surprised we have not had any uglies that look like a president or maybe Elvis...

done with the uglies here too. But I should have taken some pictures, I put a more than a few spiders into heaven with these ugly things. I can usually clean the spiders off while moving the wood but some of the nasty uglies have the spiders deep inside them

The uglies have a special place in my heart. I don't name, them but the kids draw faces. Maybe I should start.

"My Uglies"

Whew - I thought for sure by the title of this thread it would require mod action.;lol I was afraid of pictures.;lol;lol;lol

Am I the only one that doesn't have any uglies? No really, everything just goes in my stack and I burn as I go. If I'm trying to load tight I might leave one odd one in the rack here and there but I don't separate them or anything. I think if you give them the confidence that they're really just like any other split, yet special in their own way like any butterfly or snowflake, they'll perform better when they get their moment to shine.

I put my uglies in an ugly pile next to my beautiful stacks. If mix them together the stack becomes unstable with the odd shapes. Unless I'm using an holz housen then they get tossed into the center.

Many years ago a guy I rented a room from had a crotch stained and displayed in the living room that was anatomically correct. It was female and quite accurate.
