Some of the prices I saw for oak kits were rather pricey so I decided to to make my own. I had to use a Walker exhaust adapter to adapt the stove to 3" flex pipe, then ran that to a 3" dryer vent.

Looks slick. If there was a flapper in the termination, you remembered to remove it, correct? ;)

OAK on pellet stoves all the way. Otherwise, all your structural leaks will become your OAK.

Did almost the same with an aluminum dryer vent for the garage stove, a Hestia for around $10 including the hose clamps. Looks good and works. The kits for 40 or up are just way out there.

A lot of folks will say you should not have plastic on it in case of power loss you can get smoke out of the OAK. Not sure if against code or anything.

If one had a real concern it should be run thru a thimble. I don't see much getting through the stove flapper but some smoke and not to much heat. I've tried power out and don't get much if anything. Both house stoves could run for a short time if the if the auger would keep feeding.

We had a power outage and there was no issue with smoke whatsoever.

That's what you are aiming for. Draft free home and no smoke issues.

The OAK does make a big difference. And after burning wood for 28 years it's great to not have to deal with backdraft smoking up the house on really windy days.
