Wood Splitter using Log Dogs

Some time ago I did a thread on the log dogs and there were some questions about how much they can pull, how they would work for getting the rounds onto the splitter, how they were set in the rounds and how they were removed. My dear wife did this for me.



There are four short videos
1 - using using a log dog to yard a log.
4 -lifting blocks onto the splitter and getting the log dog out.
1 - using the log dog to hold a small log off the ground to buck rounds.

I've never used these, but I can vouch for the principle. I handle my short logs and rounds with a machete, burying the square tip in the wood. It's an easy way to skid and lift without bending over.

Someone here gave me the idea to use hatchets. Drywall or roofing ones work well because the smaller heads are easy to bury and extract. Plus they are fun to throw

Yup, a hatchet works as well.

Looks like log tongs would work good too.

These babies are great for small rounds less that 12". Keeps your hands out of the snow and you can carry two rounds at once. Almost like putting a suitcase handle on wood.

Looks like log tongs would work good too.

I like the huskies and your tongs. These are the only set that I have.

Perhaps a little bigger than you need for the application at hand.
