I currently have the 17vl England's stove and was planning to get the bigger 13nc. Love it, just undersized it. I thought I made the right decision but it' just not big enough. Also it doesn't have a long enough burn time for me. I get 4 hours or so on good wood. I live in a basically uninsulated 30's home around 1100 sq. Ft. My question is, before i do anything, would the 30 run me out?

Yes, in Mississippi it probably would be too much. The 13NC would likely be better. But note it's stiff hearth requirements. Unlike the 17VL the 13NC needs a very well insulated hearth. If that is an issue there are other options in this size range.

Yea that's what i thought. Thanks begreen. Yea i know about that R2 hearth it needs. It's not a problem cause I'm on a temporary hearth right now and I've left myself enough room that the clearances won't be an issue either. I'm kicking myself for not getting the 13 in the first place. I've learned a lot from you guys and I appreciate all the help.

I love the England folks and would like to stay with them but I'm open to suggestions. What are some other stoves similar to the 13 that are out there?

The 13 is a fine heater, but as noted, big hearth requirements. Check out the Drolet stoves for an apples to apples comparison. They have several competing stoves in the "utilitarian" market. (and there are others)

The PE True North comes to mind in the affordable medium-size category.

I don't understand the big hearth requirement. Mine now requires a .5 on the r value and there is little to no heat produced on the floor around the stove. The 13 can't throw out that much more. At least not enough to require the 2 r value. Jmho

I have the Drolet 1800. It has a bigger firebox than the 13 and comes with side shields for closer clearance.

If it wasn't a requirement they wouldn't advertise it as such (it is a detriment to the stove). That is the spec it was tested to and needs to be there for install. Sorry, no disrespect here, but this isn't an opinion issue. Please follow ALL install requirements of the stove - no matter what brand you seek. Safety first.

Oh I'm going to. I don't cut corners. Just voicing my uneducated opinion

Good to know. There is a wise man on board that used to have a sig line something like:
"If you invite fire into your home, do it with the utmost care." I tend to agree.

Not sure how much more heat you want but if you are afraid of heating yourself out of the house I would suggest taking a look at a small Blazeking catalytic stove e. g.:
http://www.blazeking.com/EN/wood-chinook20.html
Sure, it is more expensive but considering that you will heat your home with that stove for years to come it may be a wise investment.

Since the season is winding down I would list the 17vl for sale on here and CL, might find someone local to take it off your hands, that will give you a little cash to put towards a bigger stove.

If it was me, I would take the summer time to scour CL, Ebay, and everywhere else to find a deal on a used Woodstock Fireview or Blaze King Princess, doubt you would find a used chinook.

For that size of a space you will love the long burn times you will get with a catalytic stove.

400 mile round trip to Nawlins might be a complicator.

Oh I'd love to have one but it may not be in my price range unless I found a really good deal.

What do you guys think would be a fair asking price for my 17? I installed it in December 13 brand new. Got it from home depot for 580 tax included.

I'd Be Happy To Get 350 If I Could

Isn't that it listed on craigslist for $400?

Prices is fair. Market there small. Just like the suggestion for a True North stove. Gonna be tough finding a dealer around there.
