Hate to lose any tree but this big hickory was suffering and about 40 feet from the house. It will make alot of splits.

Now here is another example of "if you knew someone with a bandsaw mill" log! A few slabs out of that longer piece sure would be nice.

Wow that thing was a monster

Yooperdave, our bedroom, our livingroom, our family room, and our dining room are all white oak floors from trees that were harvested from my property.
I put down the floors myself after they were milled and dried. Wish I was a woodworker but I don't have the talent.

Really nice to hear about the flooring thing. My dream. I met a couple who owned a ski mountain. They used black cherry for flooring all thru their house. I would consider it woodworking. If theres jointery involved. Alot of work.
I want to use White pine from my property to immitate wide planking in my guesthouse. Its been a lifelong dream.
What kind of Hickory is it? do you know?

Applesister, it is shagbark

TimJ, mpressive tree and great firewood. Is that two tree trunks in line with each other?? Otherwise looks like a long tree with the stump splitting the middle.

the other tree is an 36" white oak
I dropped the hickory right into the oak and then cut the oak. The hickory took it straight down.

Man, you are scaring me now!

White pine is pretty on a floor - just make your guests take off their shoes if they're wearing high heels. My wife's aunt Rose did a real number on a wide board white pine floor I put down and hand rubbed with linseed oil/polyurethane mix

Here's what that hickory looks like now. Got it all together in one big pile ready for the splitter
