Restoring a Lopi Pioneer, one of my favorite stoves, used high heat primer on the cast panel, taped off the grout lines, used high heat flat Chevy red, misted over with high heat flat black, then removed tape. Ta da!

BEAUTIFUL! I love the 'touch' with the misted black!

That is a gorgeous paint job.

gorgeous , but what happens after being exposed to firebox temps ?
I used a ceramic based 1300::F paint. Should hold up reasonably well if I can figure a way to cure it. The direction said to start the engine and let it run for 10 minutes then cool for 20 then let it run for 20 and cool for 30. At some point I guess I have to drive the stove around the block a few times.

I think Don posted a painted brick job before too. Got the idea from him.

Yes thanks, I did - That came out nice Scott. Showroom new.

I used 2,000 Deg F header paint for the white primer and 1400 deg f Copper and Surf Sand color for a more modern look. :)

This is the big brother Avalon Astoria fire brick

Anyone ever paint the medalian and deflector panels on a Harman? Thinking of doing if not creating more maintenance.

That might be tough cause the fire actually hits those panels. At least the center compass on the Accentras. The baffles would be okay.
That would be blow torch on the compass I guess... Nice job on the brick! It looks also textured like brick.

Nice job! You could use an old oven that you no longer cook food in to cure high temp paint.

Oh and the trick here...you have to mist the black while the red is still wet. I did go over the black with the red and then back to black...all while wet to get the blending effect. Just in case you're fixing to try it out. Not hard. Just keep going back and forth until you get it.

Hi Scott

Where is your Grill?

Here is the 1997 Lopi Pioneer I did 2 years ago. I updated the knob control to the Digital Panel.
Does yours have the knobs?
I also installed the Graphite Impregnated Door Gasket for that high quality look.

I went with the Flat Aluminum for the door trim and grill paint and Surf Sand on the bricks with Flat White between the bricks for that Up-To-Date look. :)

Coming together, new paint, new glass gaskets, polished and cleaned the gold trim, few more finishing touches and new door gasket and she'll be all newey.

It looks like it will be better than new when you have it finished. Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures and allowing us to follow along with the restoration.

Scott, looking good. Did you figure out how to cure the paint? Too large for a conventional oven, don't think you can get an electric heater without thermostat control...

Hello

Sometimes I just light a small fire for 15 minutes in the fire box, to cure the paint and then another fire for 30 mins.

I just repainted the top of my garage stove and then lit a fire for 30 mins. I could smell the paint curing for sure. LOL

Are you going to paint any part of your stove this summer Lake Girl?

Why is it one of your favorite stoves? Easy to work on? Reliable? Efficient? Stylish?

Just trying to learn from those more experienced.
Here are my reasons:

  1. Travis Ind. builds things really well. They think through their designs while not re-inventing the wheel and they use quality materials
  2. I know them very well so getting around them is easy peasy
  3. They are a small stove so they don't take up much shop space and are easy to maneuver
  4. You can put a little bit of elbow grease into them and get a whole lotta reward

Ahhh. My grille is just black. I also opted for the analog board, it was in great shape and I like it more....actually, it's still digital just has knobs.
