Platinum Pellets is the name on the bag, and if you look on the website, that is what they show as the special price.

wish I was close, that's cheaper than the bbs crap. never tried them but heard good reviews. How do these compare to blazers may have to rent a uhaul and travel for that price

Much better than JRA's Blazer's that he got for $299 via pre-season sale (in case you hadn't heard). ==c

My local Agway has carried Platinum's this year but they are well north of $300 a ton. Good sale, Dan. Next time I have to visit Portsmouth I might have to call and swing by.

These burn good and make a lot of heat for a cheap pellet......but you will need to run them through a pellet cleaner. There is a LOT of fines. ALOT.

I'm hoping these prices continue to drop as we inch closer to spring.

These pellets are leaps and bounds ahead of any BBS pellet I've burnt. I burnt 2 tons last year. These were going for $350 a ton at one dealer in CT this year. I paid $330 last year, which was way too high. Most other CT pellet distributors were right around $285 this year for them.

Does he sell them by the bag? I don't see any prices on the website except for per ton.

So I called and found he does sell them by the bag - at the same cost as the pallet price.

Hey Dan, guess who conquered their aversion to that town, had a day off with nothing to do in the afternoon? Yep, this girl. brought home 29 bags; 27 of Platinum Pellets and 2 of Olympus Douglas Firs! I know that is an odd nuber - a small, uninteresting story behind it, but I'm a happy girl. Can't wait to try out each of these brands!

I wish I had known you were going over... I was there until a little before noon...
Henry called a little while ago, to give me the day's report... and said someone
had driven over from what I thought was your area...
I said "was it a woman by chance"?
In an Explorer or some similar vehicle?
He said yes, she reads the forums and saw your post...
I said I'll bet I know who it was!
Then he told me that you were not keen on Barrington...
I said I KNOW WHO IT IS !

I think you will like the Platinums..
Hope you like those Douglas Firs too.. Those were a good price!
;)

Not all of them.
Right now, just the Platinums, LG Supers, and most of the time the Douglas Fir Olympus...
If someone wants 1/2 ton of something, usually the other bags go into the shop,
and those can go out by the bag...
The Olympus, we know that a lot of people want to try them,
before shelling out the larger dollars...
:)

I called first and he said he had 3 brands he was selling by the bag, and the Platinum's was one of them. I was happy to drive over for them.
Deliberately mentioned the forum, you and my aversion because I figured if it came up, you would know exactly who it was ;).

Didn't know I was going - was a spur of the moment thing since it was a nice day so wanted to get out of the house. Next time, I'll let you know and maybe we can meet.

Can you please report back on fines/sawdust in your bags of platinums when you get a chance to use them? I like them and burn them, but they are so dusty I built the pellet vacuum to clean them before use. Curious to see if others report the same or no?

The 3 bags that I have dumped into the hoppers so far seem to be a bit less dusty than FSU's and Pres-to's and way less than the ThermGlo's. Fines, I'll have to report back on - I did just clean both stoves yesterday, so should get a good idea of fines later. However, doesn't matter what pellets I've used so far, my fines box is always full when I open up the cover.

My biggest observation so far is the difference in lengths - almost to the same extreme as the ThermaGlo's are (TG's are 0.5" - 2.5" and that is in every handful).

Those pellets were the longest I used last year. Didn't cause any issues with augers in my stove. If anything, there was a bit less fuel in the burn pot so I had to turn the stove up a notch. Still kept my house very warm in the coldest of the cold last winter. There was way less ash buildup in my Englander burn pot than any other BBS pellet, so I was scraping the pot less while running higher heat settings.

So the Platinum's have been burning in the P61a Since Monday. I just cleaned the glass last night and it was still way cleaner at that point than 24 hours with FSU's (for some reason they smoke up the glass fast in that stove). I did turn up the feed to 4, from 3, but otherwise the rest of the stove settings have stayed the same (using room temp). Although I haven't actually measured the temp coming out of the stove, it must be hotter as I am using less pellets. and, this week has been consistently colder, both day and night, than the last several. Although there is just about as much ash as the FSU's (it's hard to tell though until I go to clean it), the ash must be lighter as I haven't had to scrape off a "mustache" yet.

I also ran 2 bags thru the P43. There is no difference in glass cleanliness, but I've never had an issue with any pellets doing that with this stove. Once again, I didn't have to clean a mustache off the burn pot but I can watch it blow out as it is running. Because this stove is on the main floor, and wind/cold affect this level much more than the basement, I can't judge performance at all by pellet use as I run in room temp (thermostat in another room). I did place an oven thermometer just in front of the air tubes and got a 250* reading. The Pres-to's that I've been running are at 225*, so it seems as if the Platinum's are running hotter.

All in all I am pleased with the Platinum Pellets and am happy I decided to make the journey to the town that shall not be named to get them,
