I've posted here before with great success thanks to the user group.

Woodmaster 4400, about 9 years old, in great shape.

Lately I've been out to toss wood in it and noticed after swinging the door closed I could watch the temp on the ETC drop 30+ degrees in about 5 - 10 seconds. Today I got back home around 730 and went to check it and it said the water temp was 203 (I have the low kick on point at 160 and turn off point at 170). I went and cranked the heat in the house. An hour and a half later I checked it and it said 168 so I opened the door to load it up, tossed some wood in (there was still a good bit of lumber in it) and when I closed the door hard and latched it I watched the temp go from 168 to 123 in about 8 seconds. What's going on with this thing? Is there a temperature sensor that needs to be changed every so often? It seems to see the correct water temp when I shut the door with a nice bit of force. Door rope, flapper, pumps, everything is as it should be. Would love to know if it's a sensor that needs to be replaced and where it might be.

Thanks so much in advance,

bigL

There is a sensor that goes into the water jacket. It seems the wire or sensor may be bad.Keep a eye on your the sliding damper plate as they will deteriorate around the edges and allow the boiler to breath to well and temps will increase. They are easy to change. The sensor if I remember correctly requires some sheet metal removal and is on the left hand side if your facing the loading door...not hard just time consuming.I ran the same model for 23 years...non digital I might add...it served me well. Call wood master and pose your question...they are great people to deal with and will answer your question quickly...800-932-3629

Thanks Tar will give them a call today!

I've seen a Ranco control on the Heatmaster coal furnaces start changing temp all over the place, then finally read EP. Usually the probe is bad.
I think Woodmaster uses a Love control. The sensors for those are like $12 on Amazon.

Did you get it figured out? I PM'ed you. I didn't see this or your PM until this afternoon. People above steered you in the right direction. My thermistor probe was on the rear of mine. My wire was shot and I replaced it with a heavier gauge speaker wire. I did the probe too. Easy to do it all
