I am burning Okanagan Gold at this time. I see where they are no longer being made,but they are being replaced by Northern Warmth which is supposed to be the same pellet. Any one have information on this? Thanks Den.

The NW Purely Pine is the same as the GOLD, The Super Spruce is definitely not Platinum ( RED BAG)
Roasting Purely Pine right now and not too impressed, although previous have been roasting eagle Valley. For some reason they are creating coarse ash that is sitting at the end of my burnpot (Harman P68)instead of going over into the ashpan as everything else has. have not been roasting long enough to have experienced Oakies but these give off great heat but the dang ash dam is not favorable in the least.

I burned 3 bags of the Pines..
lot of coarse ash also..
the spruce[ blue bag] had lot less ash..

I saw Okangan's FAQs on a different forum a couple weeks ago:
Will you be offering all three different Okanagan brands - Platinum, Gold, Douglas Fir?
The Okanagan Platinum brand will be available immediately. Okanagan Gold and Douglas Fir brands will not be available until later in the season.
Is it true that Okanagan Wood Pellets changed their name to Northern Warmth?
No. Northern Warmth has nothing to do with Okanagan Wood Pellets and the brands are not related in any way.

I bought 2 bags of the Northern warmth purely pine from Squire Lumber in Monson MA. For me and for the type of stove I have they seem really close to the Oakanagan Gold.

Not 2017. I am burning last years which were in short supply near me. I am waiting for a postcard from my pellet store to see if they will carry them this year. I hope they do and I hope they are as good at a similar price.

I haven't burned any kind of new iteration or spin off of Okanagan, I am burning right now LG Granules and can say they are better than last years. LG have never been a bad pellet anyway, run along the lines of Oakie Platinum, if any of you were ever familiar with those. Around here LG has consistently been less expansive than the Oakie Platinums for about the same performance level. And this years have low fines/dust, pretty low ash and low burn pot deposits..

Jimmy at Royal Fireside in Mendon said they have the Platinums and are waiting on Okie Douglas Fir (expects it this month)
Okanagan Platinum:
$7.25/bag and $299/ton. You can pick them up yourself or have them delivered for $45 for one ton, $60 for 2 tons, and it goes up from there.

Thanks BurnNotice2020 for the location of someone selling Okies....Not sure they will come to me as my town is not listed but I will check. As far as the NW letter goes...they are not the issue...it is the dealers that have been pushing the NW as Okies replacement. Some of these websites are still showing some BS out there. I bought into some of this last season (Sept 2016) when I bought 5 tons of the NW DF and was told they were Okies. Shame on me. Won't happen again though. The NW DF are not bad, but they are not Okies.

I talked to Squier's this morning after getting my usual postcard for their early buy with half price delivery. I bought Oakie Platinum last year for them for $259/ton. They were leftovers. The person I talked to today confirmed what you said about the Northern warmth. They are made at the plant that made Oakie gold and should be similar. I'm going to try to find LG's close to me as Alternativeheat likes them. If not, I may go with the NW for next year.

I liked them ( LG) this year yes, decent heat and not too ashy, hardly any deposits on the burn pot ( what little there was of deposits were pretty hard though, nothing my big screw drive couldn't chip off). I've used them in the past and would place them someplace near or between Oakie Platinum and La Crete or generally in that mix someplace depending on each brands particular run for that year. However this year, unlike past years, there were some long pellets mixed in that caused some banging in the stove now and then. In the past they were always shorter and I turned the feed rate down a bit accordingly. I wouldn't throw out LaCretes or Spruce Pointes either if you run into either of those.

Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with different brands. I burned New England fro 18 years in my old Breckwell stove, didn't know any better. With the Harman, I'm a little more discerning, even though the stove isn't! I'll add La Crete's to my search, thanks. Do you know the difference between LG Granules and "Super" LG? Listing is at Robins garden center in Oxford Ma. Ash content is lower, bags only 40lbs. each, price similar.
