I am looking at buying a 576XP for my big saw. I can get it $30 cheaper without autotune. I've never had autotune - what do you guys think? I am inclined to get it...

My experience is mostly with STIHL saws. I have both Mtronic and non mtronic saws. I like them both but would gladly pay the $30 to get an mtronic one. My understanding is that huskys auto tune is a just more up to date version of mtronic technology.

I love the autotune. Save you a lot of tuning if you're using it at different altitude, humidity. Etc. You will love it. The air filter stays very clean. That's what I noticed always on mine. Highly recommend the fuel mix from the dealer if possible.

2 tanks today cutting up that oak and felling a 30" oak. Things starts easy hot and cold. No hesitation at all. Cuts like a champ. Yep love it.

Maybe I never going to know/experience the feel cause I am in softwood country, but I heard that in hardwood and more on those trunk diameters they tune really nice.
I've got 2 auto tuned saws a Jonsered 2252 which is a Husky auto tune, and a Stihl 661 with Mtronic. Both work the same and after having used these saws, I would never buy another saw without it. Both my auto tuned saws run perfect every time. My older saws run good too but if it's high humidity, or cold, or hot, etc I notice differences in the performance. I always have to tune my older saws in the Fall and winter and then again in summer. Which is why they are starting to collect dust
I'm assuming you have a Husky ? Thats got more with it being a Husky than it does with auto tune. I've got a Jonsered 2252 (same as husky 545) auto tune and the filter stays much cleaner on the Jred than the filter on my 661 Stihl with Mtronic. Just a better design for air intake I guess.
I've not looked into the electronics of each system but I'd guess it's the other way around. Husky was first to the table with auto tune. Stihl followed afterwards. Same with Spring Anti Vibe and the clean air system allowing air to enter the carb from the non chain side of the saw. All were engineered by Husky and Jonsered ( the clean air system by Jred long before Husky bought them and ofcourse the auto tune by Husky and available on orange saws before allowing Jred to get the technology) Stihl followed after the fact on all of these advancements.
I'm really not sure which system is better. Both my Auto tune and Mtronic saws are working as advertised.

I've always understood that husky developed auto tune and was later forced to sell some of their dated technology to STIHL, so that STIHL could compete thus avoiding anti trust law suites. Either way I'm a STIHL guy and own a mtronic 661 as well. The saw performs flawlessly and I am happy with it regardless of who first developed the technology.

I believe you are 100% correct. They all good. I don't have/never owned a Stihl chainsaw but friends and family members owned them. They all work nice. Everything comes down to what you like and which brand you want to be loyal to. We facing that reality with everything now a days.
Makes sense. Never heard that but I wouldn't be surprised. I will say the mtronic on my 661 would get the nod over the auto tune on my Jonsered only because I never notice it "learning" it's settings and making adjustments. On my Jonsered it takes a good 2 minutes or longer where the saw won't run well as the auto tune does it's thing to adjust to the weather. On the Stihl I don't notice that at all. So I'd say for me Mtronic is more refined. But the auto tune works just as well after a couple minutes of run time. Tomato Tomatooo

I never noticed/experience that with mine, it just works fine but I can noticed better four stroking sound when it tuned. Butifull 4 stroking sound but never experienced any other symptom. it starts and runs fine all the time. I also only use the mix from my local dealer from where I bought it. Same fuel that husky was recommending at the time of the purchase for the extended warranty of four years if I remember correctly. fuel can make the difference, cause the system also tune for different type of fuel.
