Jotul 602 - Is it Ok to burn without a lower burn plate?

I just purchased a sweet little Jotul 602 in excellent condition.- except that the bottom burn plate is missing. Searching www.woodmanspartsplus.com/ comes up empty.
Anyone know where I can find a replacement?
Or how about another solution such as fire brick?

I'm not certain if that plate fits your model. If it's obsolete, you could try a search for a UK Jotul stove spare parts seller. I got obscure parts for my Morso from the UK that no one sells in the US.

I wish that was the part I am looking for, but it's not. There is a protective burn plate that sits on top of the one pictured. Rock Mountain Stoves doesn't have it either.

All of the images supplied are just of the bottom of the stove, not the burn plate insert.

Sorry, you're out of luck then. I couldn't even find an actual picture of that part. Just line the bottom with firebricks, or buy a piece of steel plate cut to size from a metal shop. That's a beautiful green color. You can make it into a good stove.

Would highly suggest that if you can't get the bottom liner from your local Jotul dealer, I'd look at another stove. You should not modify any stove to just use it, it could come back to bite you. Good luck.

I'd get a used 602 with a defect for cheap and scavenge it for parts. In lieu of that I would probably use some firebrick with an inch of sand on top, but only if I had a well insulated hearth underneath the stove.

For example - This stove needs a new back, it is shot. If the interior burn plates are also warped or cracked then it is basically scrap value, but the odds are the part you need will be just fine. Offer them $50 if it has what you need.

I'm installing the same unit that I thought was complete until I read this post. I just got back in from checking my stove, and alas...I am in the same situation. Have you made any progress locating a replacement?

I just had my sheet metal heat shield cut the other day.

That's so odd. There usually is no need to remove the bottom burn plate. If you can't find a cheap used stove with one then I would cut and fit firebrick in the bottom and cover with an 1" of sand to get you by this winter. Got pics of the installation so far?

I'll get a more descriptive post with stove, location, and hearth location on here. Any feedback welcome. It will (hopefully) sit in a corner of a large shed (11x29). I have 3 pieces of 26 gauge galvanized sheet metal for a heat shield. 2 5' X 4' for the walls. Attach with 1" ceramic spacers, and 1 4' X 4' that I will have under the brick hearth which will consist of 12-16 1X1 stones.

The Jotul 602 part #35 base plate is non existent on the 2nd hand market. Wondering if the 2 1/2 pieces for the 602 Fwould fit...hmm
