I have been reading and occasionally posting on the forum for awhile. I finally bought and had installed a new Jotul 550CF today by Kring's Hearth and Home in Southeastern, PA. Here are some photos of the installation and the block off plate that they agreed to install as well.
You can see how they cut the damper a bit to let the liner down. You can also see the block off plate they installed on either side of the liner. Stuffed a good amount of Roxul up above the block off plate and around the liner. Brought the unit in with the metal surround and it went right in. Took a few minutes locking down the liner and cap up top. Done in about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Now, I need some cool weather to do some break in fires! Thanks to all the threads, information and helpful folks on this forum. You all helped me decide on this insert as well how to evaluate my firewood seller. I'm ready with a little over three cords of wood split, stacked and dried.
