So I have had my 25PAH englander Room Heater for about 5 years. I love the stove but I have never been able to figure out why the burn pot clogs constantly. It gets filled with a lava-like substance I have to chop out with a putty knife. I have tried every different type of pellet available from super cheap to the most expensive and it makes no difference. Every 2 days I have to shut her down and clean the burn pot. It doesn't matter if the stove is on 1 or 9 for feed rate. I also have the 25ep summers heat on the other end of the house and that uses the same pellets and I could burn trash in there and it almost never has to be cleaned. Installations are different - the 25pah is direct out the exterior wall and the 25ep has a stainless flex pipe inside the chimney that goes up through 2 stories and attic before it discharges. Both stoves are set the same for the bottom 3 control buttons by factory. Any suggestions to make the EP burn without clogging the burnpot?

Have you changed the default settings? (bottom 3 buttons) should be 1 4 1

Try bumping your LBA up to 5 and see if that helps. I suspect its needing a plates off cleaning, look behind the ash drawer for the two plates remove the plates vac out, then before you put the plates back on, take a mallet and whack the firewall of the stove above the cleanout openings and see if you have a bunch of soot fall down from above, if so keep whacking until the crap quits falling , vac it out again and reassemble

I do that weekly religously.

So here is a picture of my stove on 2 for fuel and 3 for room blower....24 hours after a full inside and out cleaning, including banging the inside wall, removing the bottom plates behind the ashpan and vacumming and using a brush to go up inside to cleanout flyash, and cleaning out the exhaust pipe T cleanout. This is the only flame I ever get....clogged burnpot everytime. I'll post a picture of the burnpot in a few since I just shut it down to chisel the junk out of it. I upped the LBA to 5 yesterday and it does not seem to have made any difference at all. I am using stove chow for pellets at the moment but this does this with every pellet I have tried. Inferno, Green Supreme, Still River, even some I can't remeber the name of but that are super pricey at $8 a bag. I will also add my picture of the flame later as apparently I didn't upload it right or something.....

Ferris: The key to faking out the parents is the clammy hands. It's a good non-specific symptom; I'm a big believer in it. A lot of people will tell you that a good phony fever is a dead lock, but, uh... you get a nervous mother, you could wind up in a doctor's office. That's worse than school. You fake a stomach cramp, and when you're bent over, moaning and wailing, you lick your palms. It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school.

Did the bump up help out?

lol I never actually have ever seen the movie although everyone tells me it was great. No...the bump up to 5 made no difference. Trying to post a picture but I think it has to be approved or something first since I am not seeing it in my media. I'm gonna try a link instead....

what does the clean out hook to, Vertical VP or chimney? straight out the wall?

have you looked out through the pipe.. screen on the termination? could a bird/rodent get in the pipe and make a home?

yep that's it Englander requires 36" vertical

from the manual

Additional Venting Information  Do not mix and match components from different pipe manufacturers when assembling your venting system (i.e. Do NOT use venting pipe from one manufacturer and a thimble from another).  We require a minimum vertical rise of 36 in. (3 ft.) of pipe to create natural draft in the system, which helps evacuate smoke from the stove in the event of a power failure or combustion blower failure.  Venting systems 15.0 ft. or shorter may be composed entirely of 3.0 in. pellet pipe; to reduce frictional losses, venting systems longer than 15.0 ft. should be composed of 4.0 in. pellet pipe.

Yeah that's what I read too. Thanks.

I don’t have the pah but I do have a pdv . I know that some people on here will disagree with me but I have used stove chow and a number of other hardwood pellets over the years and ended up with the same results as you have to a T . I switched to softwood pellets and now I get absolutely no lava at all with very little ash buildup. My opinion is the the Englander lower end stoves like softwood. Might be worth buying a bag and trying.

Still should have a minimum 3’ vertical in the VP

Her burn pot

I would have never guessed that was a burn pot if I had not known that was the topic of discussion. I have only owned one pellet stove and I guess I haven't experienced such a situation. All I have ever had to do with my burn pot is rub it with my finger to clear the holes out. Very interesting. Hope the OP gets the burn corrected.

I'll try that although I am sure I've probably used softwood at some point as I have tried every type available around here but knowing specifically to try softwood might make me notice more of a difference.

Yeah I am thinking it's the pipe not going vertical. Now to get it changed....that is a whole other story...lol
