New vs Used

Ok, folks.

As you may have seen from my recent posts, I'm giving some very serious thought to retiring my Austroflamm Integra and going with a Harman. There's a dealer local to me who kicked me a discount on the P35i ($3100), but I also stumbled across a pre-owned Accentra for sale.

The problem is that I'm reluctant to go with a unit that has no warranty that was a factory refurb in the fist place. The present owner is willing to work a deal, but even half off a stove that's far more than I really need, the 8+ hour round trip to pick it up, and the various unknown factors that always go with such a situation are weighing on me.

Looking for feedback on what you guys would do.

Well what's the diffrence in price, new compared to used, second how old is the used stove, third how well was the used one taken care of? Pellet stoves are generally easy to fix and if the previous owner took good care of that stove keeping it clean religiously there isn't to much that goes wrong with a higher end stoves your looking at. I don't know about the dealer your looking at but most dealers that offer warranties is only on parts not labor. 3100 for that stove seems normal for that stove price you might be talking a couple hundred off that's it, not much of a discount. Have you looked into a used stove from the dealer? At least most offer a pre burn inspection, with a 60 or 90 day warrantee, just a thought.

8 plus hour ride. I wouldn’t do it. Just not worth the hassle for me. Unless we’re talking a real good deal

I’m bias to the older stoves just for simplicity. Just think if you took the money you would spend on a new or another used, you could completly rebuild your austoflame And no payment plus you allready know its quirks. Just my .02

Although the asking price of the Accentra at $2600 is quite reasonable compared to its price new, it's a stove that's more than I need and never even considered in the first place, so there's little practical benefit for me.

Even if he were to go to $2000, I'm still not sure it's worth the time and risk of driving an 8+ hour round trip plus the risk of damage in the process.

Seriously considered that, but I'd really like something with a true thermostat, auto start and the design of the Harmon burner means less cleaning. Those are attractive features for me.

If its in use i don’t know if i’d drive that far and have to take it out and pay top dollar for it. Ppl around here think their 15 year old rusty 25pdvc that needs a complete resto. Is worth 1500 bucks. I buy em for 300 or less and refurb and sell for 25% over my investment. But its a hobbie.

I'd go with the accentra period! Why, just can't beat it!! I have one and really happy with mine... I thought they had some issues with the 35i?

I'm inclined to agree. Even for a $1000 difference, there are too many questions, too many risks and too many hours and miles involved.
