I’m partial to the M55 but I guess it comes down to your thoughts and opinions on the dealers and what they offer you not so much on a deal but on what they offer for parts and services. I live outside of Burlington and my dealer doesn’t carry Enviro anymore. Who are you dealing with?

Looking at a 3 year old used M55, VT Pellet Stoves and Green Mountain Fireplaces both carry Enviro

Green Mountain Fireplace is where I bought mine. I know that Green Mountain isn’t much to look at but If you go with the Enviro, I would strongly recommend Green Mountain. Also the people there are great to work with
What’s crucially important is that this stove has the current convection fan. The new style fan comes with a capacitor, it is louder than the original BUT it moves a ton of air an in this case it is great if you need to heat a large amount of square feet. The M55 when it was sold with the original fan made this unit one of the quietest stoves around. Unfortunately, it was a design flaw....It couldn’t handle the heat output of many Pellets and was prone to constant overheating and shutdown. For a while, Enviro replaced this fan with the new style (under warranty) You don’t want this stove with the old style fan! Maybe one of these two outfits will work a deal with you on the new fan. Many current M55 owners will agree with what I am telling you, and there are reams of old posts on this very subject. I don’t know anything about the Mt Vernon but maybe some folks here will give you their best comparison.

Any idea what year new fan came out?Green Mountain Fireplace is where I bought mine. I know that Green Mountain isn’t much to look at but If you go with the Enviro, I would strongly recommend Green Mountain. Also the people there are great to work with

I believe it was early in the 2013 year. Maybe earlier...I am not in a position now to investigate. Another M55 owner might chime in. If you do a "M55 new convection fan" search, you should get the answer.

My stove was Manufactured in July 2011 and has the new blower. There is a label inside the rear hopper door showing Date of MFG.

Both stoves are very strong, quiet heaters. The AE is a bit more complicated to repair and its expensive motherboard and wall control unit turn a lot of people away. Operationally, it is more automatic than the M55, the auto clean feature while ahead of its time, is an irritant to many people too. The M55 cast had issues with the convection fan overheating problem that its sister m55 steel did not really have. With the new "turbo" fan, it is a bit louder operationally, but its a reliable good heater. I'd think as a used unit, the m55 might be a safer buy, but there are many AE fans onboard here too. I've got the M55 steel. Bought it back in 2010. It's a workhorse. I had the weak fan and replaced it in 2011. I've had to replace the baffles shield twice already (about $150 a pop). I have a new baffle on order and apparently it is thicker or reinforced, but we'll see.
I run about 3.5-4 tons a year thru mine. It has been reliable and quite effective. I'm impressed by the operation. On low the fan is not loud, but if you crank her up- it is pretty loud. However it DOES throw that heat out.
Our local ski hill has an M-55 in the main lodge. They have theirs normally set at 3 or 4, and it just churns out some serious heat.
