I am new to having a pellet stove. I rent and had not direction on how to use the stove. I have a King Pellet stove 5500m. I have cleaned out the stove as shown on youtube and cleaned out the exhaust pipe going out of the house. Does any one have any ideas how to resolve the issue of smoke and fire coming out the fresh air intake. It does not have an OAK installed. Would installing and OAK fix the issue or is it something more?

My first guess is that something is obstructing the exhaust. Assuming that the combustion fan is working correctly. When you cleaned, did you go all the way, end to end of the exhaust? At times birds or other animals build nests in the exhaust path which may cause your issue. Perhaps someone that has one of these stoves will know better. Just wanted to make sure it was unobstructed as I have never heard of fire and smoke coming out the fresh air intake.

It is not obstructed I cleaned it from end to end. The fan is working the way it is supposed to.

I hesitate to say this but the King pellet stove is on the bottom of the list. But having said that you should google it and read the operating manual before messing with it. Normally most of pellet stoves will work decent if you follow directions and keep it clean. Some of the mass produced cheaper versions are lacking in quality both the stove itself and their manual that comes with it.. It sounds as if you have a obstruction in your exh system possibly as mentioned above a birds nest. Sounds like the exh fan is working but can't blow out the exh pipe so for some reason it is backing up the air intake. US stoves seem to require someone familiar with them to make them run decent. If no one else chimes in to help you I would suggest going on face book and typing in Pellet Stoves forums . They have had other folks discuss their King stoves and maybe you will find the answer there.

How do you know it working as it is supposed to? Since you are renting, did the previous user somehow bypass the vacuum switch just to make the stove run with a faulty exhaust blower? An OAK, though a great idea to have installed, will only push the smoke and fire outside, when there should be no smoke and fire coming from the intake. Either something is wrong with the fan or somewhere there is something obstructing air flow. That is assuming all parts and pieces of the stove are in place and in good working order.
