I have been reading through this forum quite a bit the last few days trying to glean information on how folks liked the Woodstock Progress stove. I did not find one bad thing listed on here about the stove. Thanks to all who posted here about their stoves as it helped me to make my decision. I am currently using a Jøtul Oslo and it has been a good quality stove. I was just looking for longer burn times and like the looks of reducing the amount of wood I burn. It looks like it will be about 2 weeks to build the stove for me, will take photos when installed.

Please make sure you pop back by and put in your review of the stove and what you like/dislike. It seems to be a very liked stove around here! I hope you enjoy it!

I will be back with a review after I have used it for a while. I will probably have questions on the fine tuning of operations as well.

I can't say one bad thing about the stove. My wife said the other night why didn't I buy this stove earlier. She just loves the amount heat and looks. Enjoy it !!!!

Did you get the ash pan? I love this stove. Throws tons of heat when needed, isn't finicky about seasoned wood. Just hate cleaning a plugged cat every 2-3 weeks when I'm running it hard. People with the Ashpan don't have this problem. I have to say it' a gorgeous stove though. Keep us updated.

I went with the metallic brown as I think it will go with my new hearth area. Woodstock sent me a photo with the stove in brown and I think that will go best. Having said that, I really liked the charcoal combination best. I will attach a couple of photos to see if you agree.

Edit: No, that's not really barnboard, it is ceramic tile that looks like it.:)

I did order the ash pan, I liked having one on the Jøtul. I think they make ash removal a lot cleaner. Good to hear that it will help to keep the cat cleaner as well.

You will LOVE your new Progress Hybrid Wood Stove! When you get it installed, reach out to us for some pointers. Overall, it is really easy to use and you will love being able to load it every 12 hours or so depending upon what wood you are burning and how hard you are running it. Plus, if you have any issues, Woodstock Soapstone Company is wonderful to work with. Congratulations!

I must have missed that in the PH threads, but it makes sense that when you are shoveling and trying to get the dust to suck back into the stove, some is going to get pulled through the cat, even though the bypass is open.
I got spoiled by the ash grate early on with the Dutchwest. Now, I gotta have it.

Good choice . . . if I ever replace my Jotul Oslo it will either be with another Jotul or a Progress Hybrid.

As you can see in the photos I posted earlier, I use an enameled cast iron pot humidifier. What is the proper way to use this on a soapstone stove, do I need to use a trivit or just sit it on the soapstone top?

The Progress has 3 lifting and nesting soapstones. They lift to expose 3 different temperature cast iron surfaces depending on where you want to cook. We lift the center (the hottest) and put our pot directly on the cast iron for humidity. You could leave the soapstone down if you like and put the pot on top of that but I assume the water would be a little less hot. The 3 surface temperatures really are different and are a real asset in cooking. Pretty much everything, including the turkey, cooked the Thanksgiving dinner on these surfaces.

OMG, I can cook on this too! Now I cannot wait to get it. I have an antique cook stove out in the garage in my Summer kitchen. I absolutely love cooking on that stove. I have been told I have a wood stove fetish and kitchen fetish, now I love the Progress even better! :) And I have not even received it yet.

I spent a few hours today trying to figure out how I was going to get it home/shipped. I think I am going to have it shipped directly to my address. I think I have found a place that will rent me a electric stair climber dolly that I will be able to get the stove inside and on the hearth area. If it all comes together, I think that is the way I will go for now. Keep all fingers crossed!

Randy

I could not get mine shipped to my home. It was shipped to the nearest truck depot, and the I had some local movers cart it home

Hint.. think carefully when you first place it, at 700 pounds you are not moving easily

If you hover "forums" above you can search for threads on moving stoves.

WOW, I really like those colors they complement each other very well, and the stove looks nice.

I have been trying to get local movers to do the same thing but so far nobody wants to do it. I did find a local stove shop that has an electric stair climber dolly that I can rent. They said they use to use it when they installed soapstone stoves. The folks at Woodstock said it would be $350 to have it delivered to the house on a truck with a lift gate and they just leave it in the driveway. I will be sweating bullets until this thing is on the hearth.

Just make sure the stair climber can handle 700 lbs. I've moved a lot of heavy things in my life, and generally, I will lift or push an object just to get a feel. This beast does not budge and can become a real head scratcher trying to figure out how to get from point A to B. I did it myself moving it 3 times. The only thing I had on my side was time.

The guy I talked with was the stove installation manager and he said they used it to install Hearthstone soapstone stoves with this dolly. I am only guessing, but I would assume they are in the same weight category? I will check with him on the weight limit of the dolly just to be certain.

I am in the same boat with having lots of time now that I am retired.

Thanks for the heads up!

I see that a Hearthstone Mansfield is 550. The Woodstocks have double thickness stone so they run heavier.

Oh, I plan to get some help, it might not be professional movers but there will be some help!
