I have a Lennox Winslow ps40 stove. I had the stove set to number 3 heating and when the house got too warm and I lowered the temp to 2 after about 20 minutes there was no flame and no pellets in the pot, but the stove was still running. If I leave it at 3 it keeps running with no problems. I had a similar problem last year and changed the proof of fire snap switch and that fixed the problem. Could the switch malfunctioned again?

I guess it stopped because the pot was empty. What do you mean by vent pipes? If you mean the vent going up my roof I cleaned it at the end of last season running a 3 inch brush down it which I do every year.

I only started using the stove 3 weeks ago. What I don't understand is why it runs fine on 3 but goes out when I lower it to 2. Tomorrow I'm going to give it a good cleaning and see what happens, I will check the proof of fire switch and make sure it's also clean, Wish me luck.

I am thinking if the exhaust vents are clogged, level 3 is a higher level with the exhaust fan turning faster, which allows it to compensate for a clogged vent. When you turn it down, the exhaust fan reduces speed and is not able to overcome the clog, so the stove doesn't draft well, the POF switch trips and shuts down the stove.
If you know how to do the leaf blow trick, I would try it.

If I'm not mistaken I think I saw 2 short blinks which according to the manual it could be a dirty proof of fire switch of a malfunctioning one, Like I said previously I did replace it last year, but I guess it could have gone bad again.

Check your air damper setting too, I have in the past after cleaning a winslow, would adjust the air control on a high setting, but it was too closed on the lower levels. I would also check the venting too, low air flow is synonymous with vacuum...

Whenever mine would do this, it meant the pipe needed cleaned. But with a difference. When the fire just goes out, and POF disc is ok, pellets keep feeding in the attempt to keep the fire going. So the pellets keep filling the pot and smolder, until the stove actually does cool enough to trip the POF disc.
But if the POF disc trips, it thinks the fire is out immediately and stops feeding pellets. Which is why your pot is empty. So I think its your POF disc again.
But in any case, unless you're barely using your stove, I think you might need to clean more often than once a year. I have to clean mine about every month, or half ton of pellets on average.

Make sure your POF switch is clean (soot and carbon will insulate it from heat) and in good contact with whatever surface it's mounted against (if any). Also make sure the wires are securely attached to the switch.
Cleaned the stove today and made sure I did a good job. I also cleaned the POF snap switch and checked the venting, The stove had accumulated a large amount of ash since I was burning at a higher rate than I usually do since the cold snap we had the last few weeks. Started the stove at number 2 seeing that it's mild today. After running it for 3 hours the house was up to 73 degrees so lI turned it down to 1 and it has been running for another hour and a half. So I think everything is fine now, that it was just that it needed a good cleaning.Thanks to all who gave me info to fix my problem.

I found with our PS40 stove that the POF switch needs to be cleaned about every half ton or so, if we want worry-free operation. Some years I've let it go longer than that and gotten away with it - especially with clean burning pellets. But whenever it acted similar to how you describe, a quick cleaning of the switch with damp cloth did the trick.
