Block off plate and insulation!

alright everyone! Thank you to EVERYONE for your help. I was planning on doing the chimney insulation and block off plate this weekend, but looking at the weather report, i went out last minute like 10 minutes before lowes closed and got a whole package of roxul, and steel. I started last night, i stuffed about 4.5 of these massive pieces into the empty gap of the chimney, and in the walls around the stove. I started the stove from a cold start, and the house has jumped 2 degrees in 30 minutes already. The insulation is holding heat very very well. My block off plate is pretty raunchy so ill redo it in the spring, but i can tell this is going to make a HUGE difference. Thank you everyone!

Good to see this worked. You were losing a lot of heat to the masonry surrounding the insert.

I noticed quite a difference on my thermometer when I did mine, I don't think I used 5 pieces but it can't hurt.

Well to give an idea of how well its working, the insulation is holding 150* heat so far. We already have 3 or 4 inches on the ground. So bring it on!

I know you guys said I should install a block off plate when I put my insert back in but I was not aware you needed to fill up the area behind the plate and also line around the insert, or does this only pertain to FR9Ford's insert and his particular install.

I've seen multiple people do it. I can already say i recommend it, if it has a void

I've done it. Stuff it as much as you can. Thanks to this site! My block-off plate is not very cosmetic, but it cannot be seen unless you are on your knees. I might make a new one sometime.

I don't either. I had to do mime in 2 pieces, I'm strong but not "move a 600 pound stove alone" strong. It looks like trash, but seems to be effective

The stuff is not flammable and does not melt. It is not like glass wool.

Roxul is made of mineral fibers. It is non-combustible.

you mean adding and making the class a taller?

It can withstand constant temps of 1200 and melts at 2100 I think.
