Will a Harman P43 "fit" in a Honda Fit?

I've found a Harman P43 that's located 150+ miles away that I may well drive my 2008 Honda Fit to and possibly purchase on the spot. I'm worried about fitting the stove in the Fit though. I assume it needs to be transported upright .Worst case I'll mock something up as a test fit. At least it's weight isn't as difficult to deal with as an Accentra.

Have any of you transported one in a Fit?

Is it OK to transport one on its front, side or back? I'm picturing needing to tilt it to get in a side door and then sit it in the space created when the back seats are in the raised position. I guess a mock up is in order . It would really stink to drive 300+ miles without and not be able to get it to fit the Fit.

If you remove any loose equipment I don’t see any problem laying it down. Your gonna need some strong backs too

Hmmm I can see damage happening to the car easily... that's one heavy unit to shove into a small door...lol.. u would be better of to go rent a truck for the day

I wouldn't ever attempt to lift my P61a and a P43 is smaller but not by all that much, nor that much lighter. I have a Nissan X- Terra but brought the stove home on a trailer with drop down ramp and wheeled it in the house on a two wheeler that was struggling to hold the weight. In my case I own the trailer and two wheeler anyway though. I strapped the crate the p61was in to the two wheeler and had someone still lifting on one end to help take some weight and offset the weight at least. Not just heavy but awkward. We wheeled it right into the house, set the trailer ramp on the top of the front steps and wheeled it in.

Take off the doors, take out the fire brick and ash pan, take out the flame guide and put those items in the car separately. That will take some lbs off the stove and give you something to grab onto as well.

As the Fit is 10 years old, I'm actually less worried about dinging it up than dinging up the stove

The door will lift off easy enough. I’d remove any loose parts as suggested above. Should be.challenge to maneuver in such a tight spot. Personally.....I’d find a friend with a truck, or rent a uhaul.

I've hauled a boxy cab50 in a Pontiac Vibe, same with a cast iron Harman Accentra so sure it will fit in a Fit (slight pun)

Did you lay them down? The Accentra at close to 400lb makes the P 43 look like a light weight by comparison.

I wrote Harman to ask about transporting the P 43 on its side and was pleasantly surprised to hear back very quickly.

"Our Recommendation is as follows:

We would recommend transporting it on it's side or straight up and down.
Do be sure to remove the door, firebrick and flame guide. We recommend putting the appliance on top of something like carpet so that it does not get damaged. Make sure to distribute the weight of the appliance so nothing gets damaged internally."

So it looks as if I've got the green light as long as I bring a couple of strong backs and have a ramp to help with loading.

Brought an Envrio ef5 home on its back in a Hyundai Tucson
with no problem so I see no reason not to move the Harman

Laying it down won't do any damage to the stove if you follow the advice given above about loose objects. I transported my P43 that way still strapped to the dolly. The seller also gave me 7-8 bags of leftover pellets so I put them on each side of the stove to keep it from sliding.

I did not, however, try to put it in a small vehicle - I rented a van. I just can't imagine how much work it would be to get into that tight of a space.

We ended up with a P61a-2 instead of a P43 and I'm happy to report that it fit in the Fit without too much trouble. I removed the door, firebrick, flame guide and ash pan, strapped the unit to a hand cart using a double layer of heavy card board as a cushion between the cart and stove and then wheeled it into the Fit up a ramp. We secured the unit to the two metal bars that secure the rear seat when it's in the up position so it could move neither forward nor rearward. The 100 mile home when smooth as silk and gravity assisted the roll down from the car, Now for the refurbishing process. The unit needs a good cleaning, distribution blow and paint job at the very least. Thanks for the encouragement.

I was behind a Fit at a stop light yesterday - I am seriously impressed that you could fit a stove in there. That thing looked like it had about enough room to fit a couple of cereal boxes in. Maybe the newer ones are smaller than your year?

The only really tight spot was fitting it through the hatch opening. It might not have made it if the hand truck had been one with large diameter wheels as clearance on the hatch frame was on the order of less than an inch or so with ~ 8" wheels.
