20 ton I believe. I took a piece of knotty oak with me and it went right thru it. I’ve been watching for 4 months, checking cl every couple days. There’s still original paint on parts of wedge yet!
I think I got a good deal, but curious what a “good” price would be. Correct guess gets a free supsciption to hearth.com!
What? I paid $900 for a new 37 ton splitter a few months ago. I sold my 22 ton 3 yo splitter for $500 and it sold in 2 hours after I listed it on CL. I paid $600 for it brand new. I’d like to know where you see 20 ton splitter for $2400...lol

What brand? I was particular in getting one with a fixed wedge. Please share what you had/have .What? I paid $900 for a new 37 ton splitter a few months ago. Well WiscWoody the post is labeled “used Iron & Oak” so I was referencing not seeing any listed in classified ads. As far as the price I was referencing it is $2700 for a new 20 ton dual action Iron & Oak from log splitters direct.What? I paid $900 for a new 37 ton splitter a few months ago. The one I have list for $2170 with out the table and the new ones have the Honda motor
Ok, my bad... I never heard of the brand and when you said Iron and Oak I thought it was a title you had given to your post. I did look at their web page and I like the fast cycle 20 ton unit they make. I also watched the video of the 37 ton splitter and that one seems a bit slower than my new $900 unit I have. I was looking into getting the dual action splitter that Northern has but I couldn’t afford it at the time and I had read some reviews that the wedge mechanism had twisted and jammed on some of them but that was their brand... not the I&O brand.

I have a friend with a PowerHorse 20 ton 2-way. I borrowed it for a bunch of American Elm & Red Elm & it worked great. I had some rounds that were about 24” dia, it sliced right thru them, some of the knotty stuff it slowed abit but then went on thru. I rarely ran it over 1/2 throttle. I called Northern for some wheel bearings & the tech said they don’t make that particular splitter anymore but found the wheel bearings for me & he said they were a really good splitter & couldn’t understand why they quit making them. Down side for me was it didn’t have Highway rated tire/rim, bearing set up. Brave, Iron & Oak & PowRkraft make the 2 way. I am sure there are others but those seem to be the best made. I think I & O makes the Brave as well.

That's a similar design to my 20 ton MTD. Big I beam, oil tank is the axle, 5 HP. The difference is my ram is the wedge and the stationary shoe is at the end of the beam. And my beam is hinged to swing it up for vertical splitting. Vertical splitting is important for me. I'm strong, but lifting 20 inch oak rounds ain't fun.
That sounds a bit pricey at $2170 new. There are a few good looking 20 ton splitters out there for around $1000 - $1200. I hope you got it for $500.

The used “box store” brands are listed for around $700 in my area on CL. Most of those have the wedge on the ram and i wanted it the other way around. I heard of the ram getting bent if you get a piece stuck on the wedge. Maybe that’s not the case but it was my personal preference. I got it for $1050. Took it for a spin today and it plowed thru every piece of knotty oak I had tried.
Given the prices for I & O splitters I would say you made out like a bandit with your purchase. Congrats.
Harbor Freight has a dual action 20 ton splitter for $799 I think. There’s some YouTube videos of it of course.
You did good! I like the wedge on the end design...before i bought my commercial splitter I converted a couple of the push wedge designs...what a difference that makes!

I have one a Briggs Vanguard. I've broken a couple of the carriage bolts on the slide but other than that it's been fine.

That is a nice find for one of the commercial horizontal units on the market. I think the 4 way accessory mounts to the four holes adjacent to the hitch. If you go with the 4 way mount, I would mod the support, somehow - that is, if the design has not changed.
Here is the 30 ton which seems to split fine up to the 4 way, but the 4 way's mount is severely deficient in design.

You’re looking at their 6 second model. This 12 second model sells closer to $1k new.

Although well built and expensive, I've never liked that design. No log cradle, 4 way isn't ideal. I could have split 5 bucked rounds in the time that guy split 1, and been stacking already.
I have never seen that design before...it leaves a lot to be desired on the 4way..I don't know how they thought this was a engineering feat...the basic concept of the splitter is sound...my commercial splitter is the same concept but much sturdier where it counts for the 4way and 6 way.Nothing flexes it..I much prefer to split off of the end of the splitter..this splitter can be beefed up and a table added.

The top support in your design would be the answer and my mod choice for the I&O but the 4 way would not lower flush like your design.
