Hi
I am working on a Quadrafire Classic Bay CB1200i. MFD is 2011 but the fire box was so rusty! Had to remove all the parts and wire wheel, clean with Acetone and paint with the VHT 2000 Deg paint. I also installed the updated thermocouple holder that holds the wire too, since the old one was in bad shape.
So it starts and runs fine but the room blowe stops and starts. I tried 2 new Low Limit snap discs and the blower would not run at all! So I did some analysis and here is what I found.
The low limit snap disc # 1 has a trip Point of 145 Deg +|- 15 Degs so the Min is 130 Degs F.
So I dragged out the heat gun and got a Reading where Disc # 1 is located and got approx 133 Degs F ! This is too close to the low end of the spec for me since we are working with a bimetal Snap Disc not a super accurate digital circuit. I also measured the exhaust housing where most snap discs on other stoves are located and got 164 Degs F so if the more common 120 or 140 Deg F snaps were used, then the convection blower would stay running in this case!
Ok this is a Quadrafire with a mini stream mount snap disc mounted much higher up on the stove. The hot air does not seem to have a lot of ash here, the discs seem to last but a did change one on another Quad because it was really cycling on and off. In that case the new one fixed it. :)
So back to this case.
The room blower does not stay running but does come back on when the flame gets higher.
Stove is clean and set to high and the flame adjuster in the hopper was never changed.
It is burning some mystery pellets with a lot of fines that may have been sitting in the hopper for a long time! See pics
It is a great stove and can burn anything but these pellets really do not look good!
So today I will try fresh pellets.

Changing out the exhaust blower housing with one that has a nice 3/4” hole for a full size heavy duty ceramic Low Limit Snap Disc is the ideal solution IMHO but I will try good fresh pellets first.

So has anyone else had this issue???

Quads had several solutions to this problem over the years but the current one is to replace your blower switch with a 100 deg switch so your blower kicks on sooner and stays running even on high. I wouldn’t put a different blower housing on there, but it’s your stove I guess.

It should have never had that 145 on there. That’s the switch for the FS 1200. Standard was 110 I believe then they dropped to 100.

Wow, thanks so much for the info!!
Is this the part # for the F100 Deg F snap disc? It says F127 on the switch. The web page states only for the Inserts!

I put in fresh new pellets and that made a big difference. It seems better now. The flame is higher.
I heard there was a 2011 tech bulletin on snap disc # 1 being in too tight?
Can anyon post a copy of these bulletins? Like to see them.

Flame is higher with fresh dry pellets and Temp around the snap disc is higher now

However the fan still cuts out on low so the F127 Low Limit snap disc seems like the very best solution!!
127 +/- 20 gives 107 for the trigger so it should work fine.
Goes to show how crappy pellets with moisture and sawdust do not burn as hot!

Thanks
See pics.

The 127 is actually 125 in the owner’s manual.

Looks like there still is a F145 Low Limit in the CB1200 Free Standing & 1000
There is an F110 for Castile and Castile Insert!
And the F125 is also in the 800, contour and mt Vernon. Sounds a little confusing?

The switches are in different locations on those stoves. Just slap a 100 deg normally open snap switch on your purple wires and your 1200I will run the blower when it’s supposed to, providing your board, blower and three way switch are all hunky doorey.
