Yesterday (Mother's Day) was in the 40's. Fired up the Jotul with fiber bricks. We have been burning pellets and bricks periodically. I believe last year we burned until the end of May. Looks like the same for this year.

I thought about lighting a fire yesterday, but it wasn't that bad. Today is in the 50's and raining, so I might get one going... We got the garden in over the weekend, so i was convinced it was going to snow. I at least have the tarps ready this year!

I think this is the first time I burned in May. Chilly Sunday night here in Connecticut too.

Or there's low solar gain. This morning at 7am it's 60F here and it's supposed to go up to around 80F. Sun is streaming into the kitchen and dining area. No heat needed at all.

One guy’s “solar gain” is another guys crappy insulation. Sometimes it works in your favor to have a leaky house that heats up with the sun and the rest of the year I want the inside to be isolated, aka insulated, from outdoor conditions.

I haven't burned since the end of April, and the furnace is off too. House was 58 the other night and probably cooler during the night but it heats up during the day just fine.

9 deg C during the day and 5 at night. Definitely still burning!

Got up to 85F here yesterday, tomatoes are loving it. Marine air came in at night and I closed windows around 10pm. 54F and cloudy outside and it's 71F in the house this morning. The clouds will burn off and afternoon sun will warm us up again. Solar warmth is good.

We have decent solar gain here, and our house isn't warming up that much yet either.

Reason being, the sun is getting high enough in the air now that it isn't reaching under the eaves into the house. And I like it that way - keeps it from getting too hot in the warm seasons.

I took a break when we had some warm weather, and again last week when I was working late.
Basic rule of thumb for me has been if I come home at 5 and the heat is on I am going to make a fire. I did burn more than I expected, but I like being warm and keeping my family warm. Nothing like seeing a 2 year old playing barefoot in the house during winter.

My favorite thing to do has been to crank up the stove and open the windows on those 60 degree days to get the fresh air in.

My brother is coming from California for Memorial Day weekend. Will report back then if we had a fire !

Weather is warm and rainy . Stopped using the indoor stoves a few weeks ago. Just purchased a morso forno oven for cooking outside and so far have used it 4 times in the past week or so. Getting used to cooking on it and so far pizza , baked potatoes and steaks. Focus is hauling in some fine looking red oak I scored back in February . Enjoying the summer heat as it always seems to vanish way too fast .

With warmth come black flies._g Still burning as usual.
Mandated underclothes for chaps.()

I pretty much stopped burning around Apr 28th.
Had one eve fire at the beginning of May. This morning it is 19 (68F) in the house, it is sunny out but it will only go up to 17 today. They are calling for rain and 16 for tomorrow......I will light her up tomorrow morning.

Frost alert.....again.
Just so some know.
And, black flies are out, barely drawing blood...yet.
Black fly alert.

No fires for the past few weeks, even the heat pump hasn't come on. We do a daily warmup with the sun, then open the house up when the outside air has also warmed up. Close up at night, rinse and repeat. Love this time of year.

Still am burning the odd time here in Winnipeg. The solar gain isn't as intense through the windows as a few weeks ago. It could be -15c outside and the house would heat up during the afternoon.

Shop was 19c last night, put in 1 10 lbs piece of elm and set the blaze king "on the hole". Outside temp went down to 3c, shop was still 19c at noon and the stove was still warm.

I did one fire sometime last week . . . but for the most part we've just been running the oil boiler at night when needed.

49 degree outside right now. Im tempted to light up.

A bit chilly here this morning, low 50’s. Wife asked for heat in the parlor. Put a few Lewis fiber blocks in the Jotul 3cb and woman and beasts were happy. The Lewis blocks are the best I’ve found. Burn long and hot. Good when wood runs out or just for a quick warmup. Made in Maine at their mill works.

Burning as I type, and listen to the rain come down, damn it.

A cool damp rainy day yesterday. I lit her up. Nothing like a burn to warm up and dry out the air.

50's and damp in the Mitten. Got the princess going in the shop, the Oslo is gone waiting for the new owner, and I haven't got the ashford yet

Bizarre, my SIL lives north of Boston was complaining about it being hot and humid today.
