Not much for conversation and cant handle a chainsaw worth a darn but he kept me company for about 15-20 minutes before disappearing deep inside a stacked pile of about 10 cord of wood. I bet he'll pop out one day when Im least expecting it. Ive been wondering where all the mice go when it warms up in the cabin.

i have a friend snake that comes to say hi every so often. What is going on with the green markings? is that just the light?

The lighting and the camera made that happen. I was holding the camera above my head so I never caught any of that shimmering light from my perspective.

looks sort of like a young rat snake, but I can't really tell. Eyes look round, but the markings on the back are strange to me.....

Not in the wood pile but about a half mile away from house on a mountain rd today....

i'm lookin but can't find a snake in there. Maybe a snake skin?

I saw same snake near my wood piles in mid-May. Lots of chipmunks holes in the backyard.
It zipped away quickly into covered wood stack.
My wife and I figured black rat snake based on description, plus it was a long snake (~5' long), and range is consistent.

This is the dad of 5 chicks. With mom, I have 7 very hungry mouths/varmint hunters! They nest about 100 yds from the house that I’ve lived in for 6 yrs. last year, the first with nesting kestrels nearby, was the first year in which no mice found their way into the house in the fall. (For the record, the person holding the kestrel is with the Audubon society and is the official banding guy in the area.)

Cute, dont feed them ;lol

Nope . . . wild animals stay wild. As it is I'm trying to limit my interactions with the fox so they don't associate humans with being non-threatening. It's fun to watch them sunning, wrestling and chasing each other though, often while Mom watches nearby.

Black racer?
Just a little Ringneck snake.....usually see about a half dozen a year.
Had this guy comin across the yard about 2 weeks ago...think it ate my little nest of robins....Black Rat Snake

So I picked it up n put it in the woods...so it decided to climb a tree.....I think its hangin around...wife said she saw one crawlin into one of our stone piles.
Hope it earns it keep n eats a he!! of a lot of mice (lol)
