hello everyone, new to the group and new to pellet stoves. As in my title I bought a house that has a pellet stove, Whitfield wp2 advantage, made April 1994, sn-78611. I moved from the west side of Washington state to east and need to get this stove going. I have taken it part pretty good for a full cleaning and I noticed a green wire exposed in the back which goes to the middle prong on the cord plug in. I do not see any place it goes, any help? Also any good tips to cover for a newbie? Thank you all very much.

Hello 19deltascout, and welcome to the forum. Your picture tells us a lot of important things.
First: The green earth wire ( middle prong in the mains plug in ) has been disconnected from the chassis of the stove. Normal mounting location for this green earth wire is like that on my attached pic... A self tapping screw and a standard crimped connector. See my pic. On my stove the green earth wire is mounted on the right side of the picture by a selftapping screw. On your Advantage stove the blowers etc. are "mirrored" , but the mounting principles are similar.
Next, we see that the thermostat terminal is missing. It should be right next to the mains plug. The two yellow wires were originally connected to the thermostat terminal, but has been permanently jumped by the conical shaped "patent" quick.fix connector.

And we also see that your stove was upgraded with the auto-igniter at some point. The igniter timing block is hanging in its wires under the stove.
As for cleaning and maintenance tips on a Whitfield ( and similar stoves ) the stickies at the top of this forum section have a wealth of useful info.

Thank you for the response, although it doesn’t sound like what I wanted to hear, and sounds like everything is a mess. I’d rather get rid of the self light and just put it to stock. I think I’ll try tracking down a owners manual and go from there. I will probably have a few more q’s As time goes on. Thank you very much

So green is ground?

Yes green is ground to the body of the stove

Thanks Ssyko :)

It could be a lot worse and not a real mess at all. Only thing that could be a safety issue is the disconnected ground wire, but that's easy to fix. And if your intention is to use the stove without a thermostat, the missing terminal has no importance. The permanent jumper made by the yellow "quick-fix connector" is a perfectly safe solution and it has built in approved insulation.

I’d rather get rid of the self light and just put it to stock.

Good idea. My Quest Plus came with an igniter, but many years ago I unplugged it. I simply didn't have the patience to wait for a stable fire. And it produced a lot of smoke during start up. With a propane torch you have a stable fire in 30 seconds.

I think I’ll try tracking down a owners manual and go from there. I will probably have a few more q’s As time goes on. Thank you very much

I have attached the owners/installation manual and the service manual here.
Good luck and take care. Keep us posted

Thanks for all the responsis, I did find the cut off t-stat terminal. Probably keep it bypasses. I also know I need new fire brick panels which isn’t a biggie, I’m also taking the motors out to clean well. The auger barely turns also and has a lot of slop in the shaft. I’m going to replace brass bushings and see if it picks up a bit. I will have a few more q’s In the next few days. Also will post pics. Again I appreciate it and thanks for the links tonservice manuals.
