Cab50 - Likely Discussed Call for Heat Issue

Hey Everyone! I am sure this has been discussed, so please provide insight or point me in the direction of the thread you may have solved this on! New to the forum, and new owner of the Cab 50 that came with a house I just purchased. It is not old and very well maintained (I have even serviced it as best know how) however there is no dealer that services this area, so I assume previous owner was DIY, like me.

Let me explain what I've got and maybe someone else has experienced it and has the correct replacement part in mind. Cab 50 starts up on reset or when I manually move the thermostat, then runs fine (clean unit, auger dispelling pellets, blower working in medium) and heats the room up to temp. However, it will not restart when the temperature drops. Basic thermostat operation dictates that when the temp in the room drops below the setting, it would trigger a call for heat from the unit.

My problem is, after room gets to temp, it won't restart without me manually turning it back on (from reset or moving the thermostat back and forth for the "click"). This makes for a very cold room in the mornings and is the primary heating source on the level it is on. I don't know if it is a snapdisc issue, thermocouple issue, thermostat, etc. etc. No one to service makes finding the right answer difficult, since the techs locally won't discuss anything with me since they don't service my area. Thanks for your help and advice on managing this (potentially) great stove!

I would look up the manual for your stove. Sounds like they have the settings on the stove wrong and they were just using the thermostat as a on off switch.

I do have the manual and took a look through. Basically the thermostat that comes with the unit is the one that is hooked up. There are only 2 wires, so it's pretty straightforward, could not find any setting anywhere, though, that allowed it to either be "on/off" or set to cycle with the temp. I don't think the t-stat is bad, since it does turn on when I turn the heat up and the unit begins recognizing it calls for heat. I guess the main problem is, how do I ensure it calls for heat when it drops down, and stays cycling through the day/night.

When you experience the no start condition, is the red call light on? If so then the thermostat is probably fine and may be a failed start due to insufficient pellets dropping or auger not turning at all.

Ok so I let the stove go out and let the room drop down the temperature in the room drop below what the t-stat is set to. Red call light on, fuel in the hopper, does not fire up. Reset the stove, pellet began to drop in and stove ignited. Troubleshooting in the manual makes claims that this is a number of things, two of which are a tripped/failed SnapDisc 2 or a Defective Control Box. Based on the description of everything, is it possible it is even the control box at all, or likely a bad #2 disc (easier to replace than a control box).

If it was my stove I'd check for voltage being fed to vacuum switch when call light is on but stove us not firing up. Would be nice to have meter hooked up before thermostat tells stove to start.

If voltage us being fed to vacuum switch does it make it to hopper switch, then snap disk 2, and obviously auger.

Also, if exhaust motor is not coming on first the auger will never run due to no vacuum to activate switch.

So I'd want to see if exhaust motor fires up when thermostat calls for heat. If not then I'd suspect it's a flaky module.
