....... and a science. These folks are neither. Some are funny and some are rough to watch. Either way a good reminder of the dangers. I was fortunate to grow up next to loggers who helped us clear our land for my parents place. Learned a lot. This was a good refresher and would give someone ar least a decent understanding.

I liked the Husqvarna tape except for one thing. I cut almost exclusively Pine, and I noticed when he was limbing he cut all the limbs including the weight bearing limbs holding the tree off the ground.
What I like to do is limb everything that is not a weight bearing limb, leaving all the weight bearing limbs, and thus holding the tree up off the ground as much as possible. That way, I can start bucking from the top down and because the tree is held up off the ground by the multiple limbs of pine, you can free cut almost everything and not have to worry about cutting into the dirt. Every individual round you buck off can then be limbed individually after it is cut with no tension involved.

always a good reminder to watch people do stupid things. I took town a small elm the other day (6" dia) and it was pretty windy out. I made sure to have a clear path, but even so, right when I was going to make the final cut, the wind blew and tangled the top in a dead one next to it. I didn't want to take them both down with the wind, and my first thought was "i can just push this thing over". Fortunately I have learned from my own (and others) mistakes, and decided to toss a rope around it up high, and give it a yank from a clear spot. Came down with a couple of tugs.

Being a first responder it sickened me to see some inbreds thinking property destruction and people maimed or possibly killed due to lack of knowledge ,carelessness or stupidity is something to laugh at.Guess that's the reason i'm employed stupid people,trees are dangerous saw two people killed in ten years out here not pretty.
I always use ropes to drop trees, unless it was in the middle of an open field and totally straight, I just feel like it's a good practice. I've had situations like your happen in years past Dobish, now I don't cut alone, I always have a helper, preferable a strong one lol.
Oh, I think it's an education to see how foolishness plays itself out.

And the guy in one of those videos did a very good job of tying himself into the tree. Even after being thoroughly bounced around, he didn't fall. Of course, there were other parts of his plan for dropping the tree that needed improvement, but that part was very good.
