What tricks are being used to combat the dust being blown around by pellet stoves? Although we have seen more dust than usual in the bags, I believe most of the dust is just being circulated by the stove. If using electric air filters, would you situate so the are blowing towards the stove or away from the stove?

K.Anything that has a fan moves particles.Put in baseboard convection heat(water or electric) and you will see little, until comes time to change the carpet, remodel the room.Your room fan,in summer, moves dust around.Your pellet stove, properly installed, does not create dust.K,just reread your post, any filter unit should work, just experiment.I had/have a big old Holmes unit, upstairs, that i used to use, when I heated with wood.I only use it when the fire smoke comes in,shut all the windows, turn it on high. Also,"combating the dust being blown around" means you need to clean your house more/better.OK go ahead and pick on me.

Here’s what I do. Take your favorite Chinese knife . Cut it off about an inch long to 1,5”. Dont pour bags. Set it in bottom down on bottom of the bin. Then slit it across the entire width near the bottom low as you can go and gently lift as it as pellets slide out the bottom. You get very little dust flying that way. You can use a long knife but a broken one or short bladed one seems to work the best.
I’ve never poured the pellets down the front with my Countryside like your supposed to. This just works better.

Ashes to ashes,

the pellets I burn,

but I have the heat,

that my wife does so yearn,

with my shop vac at hand,

the dust is at bay,

I live to drink a beer, and I live one more day.

(some wise guy, drinking beer at 1am)

I run my exhaust fan on high and open the damper full when cleaning. (On my stove I had to install a bypass switch to accomplish this.) It really cuts down on the dust in the house, as it sucks out pretty anything that I knock loose.

My bag slitting suggestion takes care of that part mostly. As for the rest of it while burning take care to make sure your door seal is sealing tightly everywhere. I found out how they can leak and be unnoticeable when burning corn. I had these weird beards of dark soot growing along the ceiling edges across the room.. in operation you would never notice though. Sometimes they can release at the pipe connections to. So you can seal them up with red silicone rtv.
