Hey guys, just did a shut down and vacuuming of my ecoteck Elaina and having an issue with the error a11, wrong flame.

This error is happening after the flame is lit, and appears that maybe the thermal couple for the heat exchanher may be having an issue.

But not sure.

Any tips would be appreciated .

I suggest you set the display to "Status" and watch the exhaust fan speed and temperature as soon as the flame appears .
If these seem right I would add a few more pellets ( by hand) before the lighting process.
If the auger is empty ( and sometimes when it isn't ) the quantity of pellets to ensure the temperature gradient requirement ( read the manual) is not obtained.

I actually did get it working, albeit it's a bandaid and not rootcasue .

After digging into the service manual, it appears the condition for heat exchanger temperature was not being met at 214f.
So I initially increased the soak time from 7 to 10 minites, but that didn't help.
What actually worked was lowering the setpoint from 214f to 198f .

Now I know it's just a bandaid and not the proper fix, but I searched the schematics and couldn't find a temp probe for the heat exchanger. My guess is the probe may be build into the room blower.

When I tear down to clean for end of season o will search for this probe, my guess is it's either failing or covered with dust which is acting as an insulator.

Judging from your reply , Ravelli have completely changed their firmware.
The heat exchanger in my first generation firmware is turned on when the exhaust temperature attains a certain value - default 90°C. - after the stove is declared <working>
In no way would this stop the lighting process - which is controlled by another temperature parameter and that complicated temperature gradient requirement.
I have early RDS documentation which is only an evolution of this.
I was considering relacing my stove with another Ravelli on the logic < better the devil you know > , but your reply suggests I no longer know this devil !
If you have your manual in PDF form could you post it to me ?

There is only one temperature sensor in your stove, the exhaust thermocouple, located in the outlet pipe of the exhaust fan. The error 11 occurs if the exhaust temperature fails to continue to rise, after the "flame present" exhaust temperature threshold is reached. Crappy pellets, or the auger stopped after the initial ignition of the pellets, or the temp probe , or the probe circuit on the control board is bad. From prior discussions with you about your Elena, there is something "goofy" with it, or your programmed PR parameters. Make a list of the values of all your parameters, and post them. I will compare them with what my Elena has.

Also, check that your temp probe is inserted far enough into the orange silicone grommet/gasket. The braided wire section should just start at the outside of the grommet.

So I just had the alarm pop up again after a relight .
Changed the settings you have underlined and the fan kicked on and it's working.

Looks like it may have solved the issue. It's just odd that it started suddenly. The stove was working fine for months.

Maybe I'll see more when I do the deep clean.

If you want more help , you will need to give more information.

The manual I have says the following :

<<
B) Flame stabilization phase
DISPLAY SHOWING “FLAME LIGTH” : in this phase the ignitor goes automatically in OFF status; the flow of air goes at a value set by parameter TF10. The functioning of the auger is set by parameter TF08 the flame has few minutes (TF09) to get stabilized.
During this working phase, which duration is measured in minutes (TF09), a check is done on smoke temperature. The system memorize the smoke temperature T0 at the beginning of this phase. Then, every one minute, a test is done to be sure that the smoke temperature increase regularly; in the contrary, the display will show “AL11 – WRONG FLAME”
>>
( I would not trust the TF numbers given here without confirmation.)

By setting the display to <status> , you will be able to double check the error by watching the smoke temperature at it starts up.
After the stove changes to this final phase you can watch the exhaust temperature rise until it reaches the trigger temperature for the 'working' phase. If it doesn't then it will be because there are not enough pellets burning .

Not having confirmed which TF parameters are used for the auger while in start up mode , my stove is usually short of pellets for this final start-up phase , but instead of being frustrated by the ERR AL11 message , I systematically add a fist full of pellets to the burn pot before I press the <on> button.

Another reason for a "no light " is that the auger started empty. If the stove stopped because it ran out of pellets , the auger will be empty. Two solutions : run the auger in <status> mode or just add two fistfuls of pellets before starting.

Thanks for the info.

The problem occurs while having a very strong flame . The error occurs when it says flame present, but the room blower is not active yet. It alarms at the point the room blower should turn on.

It appears there needs to be a condition/temperature for the heat exchanger to be met before the room blower gets turned on, and it appears this condition is not being met.

I though it may be a failing probe, but in my schematics I don't see a temperature probe for the room blower fan/heat exchanger.

If there is a probe, it may be dirty, covered or failing .But I don't think my stove has one.

I don't understand why you still think this is correlated with the ventilation fan. (PR 15) ( set on my stove at 90C = 194F).
This has nothing to do with the start up procedure.
But I note the temperature (PR11) which says 'all is well ' , pass to working mode , on my stove is set at 80C = 176F.
This figure is the same as the one given by <Pelleting in NJ> : it was he who gave it to me many years ago.

Ultravorx : There is NO temperature sensor on the heat exchanger....there is only one temperature sensor, the "Smoke Probe", in the combustion fan outlet pipe.

The reason i was thinking the heat exchanger had a probe was from the manual, but it sounds like the only probe is the exhaust probe, which could be dirty and insulating the temps.

Below is a snip from the document talking about the exchanger .

C - Work phase
DispLaY shOWing “WORK”: the stove carries out all the powers from pR 01 until it reaches the set one, while the heat exchanger, if
the pR 15 “eXChangeR thReshOLD” is satisfi ed,
switches on immediately at the set power.
When the stove is fi nally in work phase (ie. it reaches the preset power) the exhaust blower and the auger will follow the param-
eters corresponding to the requested work power (from pR 18 to pR 22 for the exhaust blower, from pR 6 to pR10 for the auger
and from pR 23 to pR 27 for the room blower)
