Hey experienced fireplace users. I have an Isle Royale, and from the user manual, I understand that the transition fitting, is reversible for rear or top venting. Geometry wise it makes sense. But, it doesn't work. I called Quadrafire, and a couple dealers, and the "kit" they suggest looks just like what I have. Either I'm missing something to make mine work, or I need something else.
See my flue and let me know what I need

Normally it just gets flipped, but why rear exit?

It's going to be a hot time in that house. As noted before, the IR is a serious heater.

It would help if you posted some pictures of where the stove is to be installed so that we can see the problems you are trying to solve.

Thanks begreen- see the picture in my post. Quadrafire only lists 1 part for the flue transition. Part 7006-019. As per instructions from my stove manual, you remove 2 bolts, spin the transition 180 degrees, and you can change it from vertical to horizontal and vis versa. I want vertical exit. The top deck of the stove interferes with this being possible.
I assume I am missing a part, or I am overlooking something very obvious. Can you guys help me set up the chimney for a top exit?

Vertical or horizontal position clearance of the flue collar flange to the top lid should be the same. Do you have the part in hand or is there no flue collar on the stove at present? If so, can you post a picture of the stove's flue collar that you have?

mm, do you have a picture of the stove flue opening without the collar attached? And maybe one with it in the horizontal position.?

Mine has all the shielding on it so I can't really get a pic, but it looks just like the manual. I have to admit to being a little confused to why it won't work.

Same here. Mine was top exit and didn’t look to have anything different added to it. Next time I’m at my in-laws house I’ll take a look. They bought my IR by the way..

here are a couple more pics. on post #9, you can see there is a plate used to make the collar seal properly against the stove. it fits in the exit with a rim that matches both the port on the stove, and the mouth of the collar. Again, you can see it on the pic at post #9

Any luck?

Thanks BoilerBob. Not a word. I'm a little disappointed. The folks at Quadrafire offer no help at all. I spoke with a good stove dealer, and they list only the part in the manual, and nobody can explain why my transition pipe seems to only manage a rear exit. I either have a strange stove, or I have a strange transition connector.

This is a long shot, but is the top on the stove correctly?

If i put an extra layer of bricks in my stove, can i restrict the excessive heat output that i am anticipating?
Sort of, but burning smaller loads of wood will accomplish the same thing. If you do add brick don't block off the rear ports.
