This is my first year with a P68, which is awesome... I'm finally getting around to "summerizing" my stove. I went to the dealer and asked for an end cap for the duravent pipe to keep birds, mice, moisture, etc. out of my pipe in the offseason. He looked at me funny, then went to the storage room and got the only end cap available, which is a male connection. I need a female connection to go on the outside of my house. He checked the catolog, and duravent doesn't even make one like that.

I can't believe I'm the only one that wanted to close my pipe in this way.... he recommended giving duravent a call.

Short of having them manufacture a new part for me, what do you guys do to plug your pipes at the end of the heating season? The dealer recommended shoving a rag in the pipe, but I was hoping for something more official than that....

I use a small piece of aluminum tape.
It's hardly noticeable...
This year I may not need it, tho.
My P61 is burning right now...

I just shove a rag in it works fine
But I like Daksy tape idea
But we had a fire this morning
so maybe nothing this year if it
doesn't warm up :(

Well, nothing on mine for 42 years. Did have a bird fall down my 8" pipe once.
Cleaned the pipe as he went down. : )
Put on a glove and fetched him from the stove and let him loose outside.

I don't cap mine, but Lowes or home depot have 3" and 4" end caps

Get yourself one of these at Lowe’s or depot as mentioned above and remember to cover up your air intake too. I also put a damprid inside the stove

I never thought of a fernco fitting! That would be perfect! I have some damprid, but didn't want to throw it in there until I stopped the airflow down my pipe.

I put some metal cloth inside pipe to house. Open the end up (cleanout) and any Stupid Birds fall thru. Lose the wire mesh in fall and put back cleanout. OAK has screen over it. Have had several birds enter the house in the past thru Chimney. Got to let them out door and into room and then cover all windows but 1.

This afternoon I went to Lowe's and bought a 3" Fernco endcap. It cost about $5.00. Slapped it on and problem solved! Thanks corkman!

What pellet stove have you been using for 42 years?

Same chimney for 42 years most of it was with a wood stove, last 3 years was with harman xxv pellet stove.

I just stuff a rag in end of exhaust as others do with good results. I also put a pc. of masking tape on thermostat and write on it "exhaust plugged" to remind me in the fall when I go to use the stove again. kap

I just uninstall my stove and venting system and patch the hole every spring then reinstall in the fall.

Stuff a rag in it.... free.
Like others mentioned... Damp Rid in the stove..
