Hi,
Update 9/6/19 : I called Duravent; their associate told me that PelletVent Pro does not need additional insulation. He also mentioned that liner extending 1, or 2 feet above the masonry chimney should not impair the function of the liner.

Original post:
A first-time installer. The house came with 1970s fire place with masonary chimney, with a pellet stove insert. The chimney is inspected and is in good condition. Chimney height is 12 feet from hearth to the flue vent. A straight passage of 8' 2" from flue vent to top edge of the damper. I am planning to install PelletVent Pro rigid chimney liner for a pellet stove insert. The liner seem to have air insulation.
- Do I have/need to add additional insulation blanket to it?
- The masonary chimney rises about 5 feet above the roof and meets 10-2 rule. How many feet should I extend the chimney liner above the masonary chimney/flue?
Thank you.
Knight.

Did you buy a flex kit? You should have a top plate, an appliance adapter, a cap and a roll of flex. At least that’s how the forever flex kits come the way we order them. Your flex shouldn’t stick up over the top of your top plate more than a couple inches or so.

I will be using rigid PelletVent Pro pipes through the masonry chimney. The rigid pipe will connect to the stove via PelletVent Pro flex pipe and appliance adapter. Thank you.

Sorry I didn’t answer your insulation question. So if I understand you right, you ran flex from the insert to the top of the chimney, and then ran hard pipe from a top plate up a couple of feet?

Pardon me for any lack of clarity. These are the connections: Pellet stove insert --- appliance adapter (T) ---- PelletVent Pro flex pipe (60" long) --- PelletVent Pro rigid pipe (36" long x 3 pieces) ---- Chimney cap. This entire system would stay inside a masonry fireplace and chimney flue.

There is no need to insulate the pipe
