It seems there are a few of us on this Forum that enjoy motor sports and automotive related activities. I think we can use this as a catch all for these.

Here I'll start:

River Marathon Jet Boat Racing: Essentially take a light aluminum hulled boat, jam a great big engine in it, a jet pump for propulsion, a driver and co-pilot and put it on a shallow river and race other boats. There are. multiple legs to each championship and the lowest overall time wins. The smallest class run ZZ4 small block 350's, with the top unlimted class running anything for a motor, up to 1600+ hp turboshaft helicopter jet engines.

Here is a 1550 hp twin turbo 552 CID V8 Mercury Racing powered boat, vs a ~1600 hp turboshaft jet engine powered boat. These boats top out at around 155 mph.

Here is some racing on our local rivers from last summer, the local clubs held the world championship last year.

Rally car racing . . . just a spectator when the New England Forest Rally comes to Maine. I missed last year, hopefully will not miss this year.

Watched snowmobile racing on an ice oval two weekends ago . . . no pictures though. Way too cold for me to even think about taking a photo.

End of July in the Bethel-Newry area of Maine and into some of northern New Hampshire.

They've had some top rally car drivers -- Ken Block, David Higgins, Travis Pastrana, etc. -- coming to the area for some time.

It's definitely a different sort of spectator race . . . from being able to get up close and meet the drivers and co-drivers in person to just finding a spot in the woods and waiting for the cars to show up . . . an hour or two of waiting for your favorite driver to blow by you in about 3-4 seconds. It's not for everyone, but it is a lot of fun. Lots of comraderie. Best of all . . . free to spectators.
