Feeling the Heat

Well everybody says if you buy the cheap pillows he get sons of that. I buy Maine Woods pellets for 220 a ton and the ash bucket is full in 5 days. I decided to try a ton of Okanagan for 299 a ton and I still get a full ash pen after 5 days and the heat seems to be the same with both. Only Advantage with the Okanagan is there's less fines but that's not worth $80 more a ton.

I agree. All pellets leave ash, all pellets leave deposits, all pellets provide heat. Find a pellet your stove likes at a good price and be happy. There is no such thing as the “best” pellet.

Tried some douglas fir pellets from TSC called minuteman there is really NO Ash!, there expensive at $7.49, $220 a ton is cheap for Maine woods, TSC white bag brand is Maine woods

didn't know Okanagan was still in business after they sold the factories few years ago..
think it's Northern Warmth from Canada that sells the firs
btw: those Minutemen firs are very low ash.. almost as low as the original Oregon doug firs..

The name was bought out but not necessarily the same product in those bags now.

I found pretty much the same thing last year. I got some Okie Plats on sale (still more expensive than TSC MWPs) and was underwelmed. Just as much ash - probably a little better heat but not enough to justify the price.

Well bit the bullet and decided to order a metric ton of Cubex for next season, $359. That with 3 or 4 ton in the basement will get me thru next season. I burnt 5 ton this past season. Wife likes it really warm I house. I'm curious to see if the extra $80 a ton will be worth it. I burnt a few bags of cubex before but not enough to formulate a knowledgeable opinion. So next season will be my final test of expensive pellets vs big box store pellets.

BBS pellets will almost always be higher ash.... that said, they do usually produce good heat though i am of the opinion no matter what you burn in your house, you wll have heat....lol...... I prefer dough firs for the zilch ash and will to pay for it..

We've used Cubex the last two winters and in my opinion, this is the hottest burning pellet I've used to date.
I'll almost for surely order 3 metric tons again for this coming winter.
Always hard to know if the extra cost is calculable but the cleaner stove with very little fines makes it easier for us to maintain and load the stove (no sifting ).

On my second metric ton of Cubex. With big box store pellets, I would need to clean the stove every 4 or 5 days. With cubex I clean it every 12 days. So cubex is my pellet of choice this year.
