Hello!
I am a new member to this forum.

I would appreciate some assistance to determine the exterior dimensions of my existing old TEMCO fireplace unit. I am looking into Heat & Glo natural gas fireplace inserts to replace the existing TEMCO unit. But having trouble finding any specifications, dimensions or manual for the old TEMCO wood burning fireplace. I have not removed it yet.

The exterior fireplace face dimensions: 37" width x 27.5" height
The interior dimensions:
Fireplace front width - 29.75"
Fireplace front height - 15.75 just inside louvered glass doors.
Fireplace back width - 22.25"
Fireplace depth - 17"

My thought is to select a natural gas insert that has dimensions close to, but less than the TEMCO unit, to minimize remodeling of the hearth.

The stamped aluminum TEMTEX Tag shows the following...

TEMTEX Products, Inc. Nashville, Tenn
TEMCO Model No. TEC36-2
No. N-311501 (the 311501 are stamped into the aluminum tag)
Serial No. PP208514. Possibly BB208514. The stamped letters/numbers are low within the S/N space and not real clear.
Tag also printed with 7B62854G to the right side of stamped S/N

I would also appreciate any feedback on Heat & Glo natural gas fireplace inserts, OR any recommended manufacturers of good quality, made in USA, natural gas inserts that I may not be familiar with.

Thank You,
Kazakiaki

You need a direct vent gas fireplace, not an insert.
Theres a lot of good brands out there besides Heat&glow. Look at Travis Industries, Kozy, Kingsman to name a few.

I suspect this is another case of misnaming a ZC fireplace an insert.

I poked around for the manual, did not find it. Maybe @bholler can find it in the csia archives?

Thanks to all for the feedback. I am sure I will received a very good fireplace education before this fireplace replacement job is done! HA.

I am looking for the exterior dimension specifications for the old TEMCO Model TEC36-2 wood burning fireplace so I can shop for, and select, a direct vent gas fireplace replacement unit that will fit the existing framed opening.

BEGREEN: Thank you for the suggestion to reach out to @bholler. I started a conversation... we will see where this leads.

Step by Step.
