ME
Hello,
I run saws a decent amount and while I (somewhat reluctantly) make sure to wear safety glasses, I just can't seem to find a pair that really work for me. The ones intended for woodworking always seem to want to slide off and the ones that fit right always seem to be the sunglasses type which isn't great for visibility in the woods! If you have any brands or styles that have worked for you I'm all ears (eyes) and would love to hear about your experiences with them.
Thanks!

I used Oakley and Wiley X safety glasses (clear lenses) for the longest time however I already had them for work (playing with explosives). Those finally gave up the ghost earlier this year due to age and wear so I purchased the ones below for use when cutting firewood. So far I like them and they don't break the bank. Only had a couple really hot/humid days so far but they didn't slip or fog up.

I get these from my local Ace hardware store. I have had no problems with them.

When fogging is a problem, I hear that steel mesh glasses help.

Another vote for the V30 Nemisis. They come in clear, smoke mirror, polarized, single or packs of 3 or 12, $5 a pair or so.
I keep them around, all over, shop, truck, work, biking, skiing, doing wood, gardening.
They glom onto your head with straight back arms and soft rubber arm ends. They don't move, let alone fall off.
I noticed years ago when in Arizona, a roofing contractor bought them in bulk for his guys. Arizona, sun, heat, sweat, work, these are glasses that function. He had the smoke mirror, like wearing a welding shield, not like some of the wimpy ones from Walgreens. I came home and placed an order first thing. When in the truck, the wife and kids grab these sunglasses first.

I have a forestry helmet with the mesh shield and a pair of ear muffs with a shield (the shield fell off, got to figure out how to fix it) both Stihl branded that work really well. Sometimes I prefer to wear in ear plugs and safety glasses, but I tend to fog them up really bad. Great thread, I might look into the Nemesis V30, I've seen them in workplaces over the years. Mesh glasses might not be a bad idea, I'll have to look for some.

We have different definitions of "works really well", then!

But throw in another vote for the V30's. They are light weight and wrap around the head well, so don't slip in the heat. Side shielding is also pretty good due to the wrap around. You can find them around $4 each, so not a huge loss if they get scratched, scraped or damaged. One thing I have noticed - if I set them down 'sweaty', sometimes it seems to 'etch' the lens over time. So might be good to clean them before long term storage.

I use the slightly more expensive UVEX brand glasses. The surface coating and antifog seems to last awhile.

I have learned that using glass cleaning solution really makes a difference in longevity of the coatings.

I get these from my workplace and I've had good luck with them. Dried sweat is about the only issue, but by then I usually need a break anyway. Last couple of years I've needed a little help with close vision, so a 1.5 bifocal doesn't hurt either. I wear them under my cutting helmet/shield. I know we get them really cheap at work due to high volumes, but it looks like street pricing is only $3-5 each. Because of the bifocal I now wear them while sharpening.

I like the face shield because having eye protection glasses on and over the ear hearing protection together is very uncomfortable. The face shield without wearing glasses is comfortable. My alternative is in ear with glasses.

BTW the NPS required safety glasses under the helmet faceshield.

Do your safety glasses fit nicely under your over the ear hearing protection? I do prefer both myself, but I get headaches with all of the clear and tinted eye protection I have.

I wear ear protection but honestly don’t see the need for eye protection when working firewood. Running a weed wacker, yes, eye protection.
