Lol I remember when I first joined everyone always said that.

Update: I shoved my hands up the by bypass while working the bypass handle to keep the plate in a neutral position I could feel it wasnt sitting right. I don't have a diagram to explain what I did but I pitched the bypass plate down and forward(toward the back of the stove and held it there while opening the bypass handle and it seems to have fixed it. The rod that works it had slid too farm down I guess.

I'll have to adjust it this spring. Best guess something got wedged in there and we must of forced it so it came out of its place. Works good now.

I was still burning a noncat soapstone stove at that time and was being convinced to go catalytic by the promises of ultra long burn times and thermostatic control. There’s a few of the really old Original BK crew around but many have stopped posting.

I can see where after so many years a guy would stop posting after hearing the same things over and over. That’s a good thing in this instance lol. I’m surprised how interesting and how much I’ve learned from this site. Still sitting at perfect princess weather here, about 2-3 inches of snow so far. Hoping the light 8pm reload burns down more for the 7am reload. No idea what happened last night, same wood for the last 2 weeks. I’m sure the chimney is good and clean and the heat output was exceptional.

8:00 p.m. load lodgepole. This stuff will burn hot, get 12+ hours and burn down the 6"'s of coals from hardwoods underneath the load.

Okay had sirroco 30 for 6 years. This year glass cracked in lower left corner. No wood has been forced to the glass. I figured probably just a fluke and sourced another piece locally. New piece cracked in bottom left corner 2 months after use. What are you guys thoughts? Can a door latch that is too tight cause the glass to crack? That's my only thought as being why it's cracking. I did a little over hand tight on the retainers. Can a back puff cause the glass to crack? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Snowed about 5-6” last night and supposed to be snow megedon tonight. Perfect princess weather again for 12 hr reloads. House was about 68.5 this am so I stuck one piece in and cranked it. Wasn’t really able to get a very good reload after about an hour but should still be fine for a 12 hr burn depending on wether the mrs. decides to adjust the swoosh

Somehow the door could be flexing as you latch it down. Big ball of gasket glue under that corner? Can you put a straight edge on the door frame before and after closing?

Me too. 5 small (2-3") splits of sassafras, on high. 2 hrs later I come home, coals left, home 5 F warmer, glass clean, and the wife complaining about the paint smell

Question for you Ashford owners. Just undressed mine from the crate sitting on the back of my truck. Can’t remember how the door is supposed to look but mine looks a bit odd. This is fully closed and it sticks out quite a bit. Thoughts?

Normal reveal for AF25 insert/30.2 stove. We build that model in our plant....does door latch snug? If so reveal will decrease some once gasket seats.

Latch is snug... just seems like way more than the floor model but hopefully like you said, when the gasket seats, it will close better. Looks odd the way it is now, like the door isn't shut.

Nice, I'm up in La Ronge. I won't get the wood stove installed this winter as I have some renos to do first but can't wait to start using it next year.

After about 6 weeks of burning now one thing I noticed is my Ashford 30.2 burns better on the right side of the stove than the left. Like this morning I put 3 NIELs in after raking coals to fairly evenly distribute them. The on on the right caught first (given I had to crack the door to help it light this isn’t too surprising with the latch also on the right). After a little while the middle one also got going well. But the one on the left barely smoldered until there was enough heat to have the whole box full of orange flames. And even with “real” wood the left side always takes the longest to catch and has the biggest coals left.

Is this because the door seal isn’t quite as tight by the latch vs the hinge? Or is that just characteristic of the Ashford? Or something else? Note, I’m not complaining. Just curious.

Question: staring into the fire (running a small load on high upon start up, so flames ), I noticed that on the back wall there is a rather large gap between two firebricks. Near 1/2 inch.
There obviously has to be some space to get them in and out, but it's not evenly distributed now.

Is near 1/2" an issue and should I move them a little bit? If so, asap or when the stove gets cold (the plan was in a week -if my wood stretches that far...)

Reposting: is a 1/2" gap between firebricks an issue? (Does it get too hot there?)

I just recently bought a used blazeking-king that’s in great shape. I won’t be installing it until this spring/summer when I remove my wood furnace and what not.. it’s got some blemishes and scratches from use but no rust or anything. I just figure since it’s out in my garage I might as well give it a new coat of paint and make it look brand new again before it’s in my house. Just curious do I need to give it a light sanding or just wipe it down with tsp or something like that?

Also the guy says he replaced the cat a couple years ago but hardly used the stove since then so it should still have lots of life left but I’m going to get a new one to have on hand in case it’s not as “new” as he claimed. I’m sure this has been beat to death haha but is there any difference in the steel vs ceramic cats? Which one would you recommend me get?
