So sometimes life gets complicated and you skim over important details...
My off season boiler inspection was subpar and mid season it hit me that i didn't pay any attention to the nozzle of my boiler.
So i had to change it during the heating season.
Pic 1 the old one removed and the new one ready to place, the plastic split loom needs to be in the nozzle befor you install it.
Pic 2 another look
Pic 3 cutting thin strips of duct tape to seal around the split loom and the buried primary tubes, these help to keep refractory from infiltrating the gap between the split loom and primary tubes. Not a lot of room to work, i used a screwdriver and pick to place and seal the tape.
Pic 4 another look at the split loom entering the primary tube.
Pic 5 ready for refractory
Pic 6 done 48 hr wait ahead.
The worst part of the job was listening to the oil boiler fire up beside me while i was working on the wood one.
Its a dirty job because you have to get inside with both shoulders to work, the last time i busted the old nozzle out with an air chisel used carefully to not damage the rest of the refractory and top tiles. This time i used a hammer and chisel, one i was to lazy to dig my compressor out from under my deck. Over 4 ft of snow here. And i had left this nozzle for too long and it was easier to bust out.I changed my last one a year or two too soon and there was more meat to bust.
Questions?

I am assuming that you then fill the void with cast in-place refractory? The plastic tube is just there to form the air passage throught the cast in-place that you are going to pour in?

Looks good , Jason gave me the heads up on this yesterday. Jason , Bruce and I are working on the primary air controls you might be interested in . Hopefully, I’ll have some pictures and an update today or tomorrow.

@mark cline I am pretty sure he added the primary adjustors like mine while he had it down doing the nozzle, I am not sure how far he got tuning last night, I text him this morning but haven't heard back as of yet. I will look I might have a pic or two of the adjustors on mine, I know if I do it's only from the back side of the fan panel. We maybe should start a new thread on that and keep this one for nozzle info.

Yes the nozzle kit comes with plastic split loom that you conect the holes in the nozzle with the hols in the primary tubes,it all burns out.I did try and pull one but with the ridges it was held tight. The castable refractory dosn't really pour, you mix it on the dry side compared to cement. You want it to hold a ball shape when you form it,not flatten out like a cookie.I use a paint stir stick to work it around the nozzle.

I made the controls while i was waiting for the refractory to dry.
I have a good chance at getting some data logging stuff from a techo geek that has years of building telemetry stuff for the racing world, and doing air quality testing in big hospitals ect.We were BS'ing the other day and my heating system came into the conversation. He was in charge of a huge gasification boiler that was designed to basically burn anything. It was a government project that got screwed up by bureaucrats.

Priorities :p

@salecker that will be tonight and friday, going to some training for a couple days, so the wife will be clingy. Her and my mom are going to tend to the boiler while I am gone so no playing with settings til I get back.
