Hello all, I've had an Englander EP-25 for over 10 years and it's been good. However, I may have an opportunity to get a Harmon Advance stove which I think may be much better than my Englander. I wouldn't mind some opinions on the Harmon also.

Anyway, here's the issue. The 4" vent on the back of my Englander is on the right side of the back of the stove and 16" off the floor but the Harman is center of the stove and only 7 3/4" off the floor. What do you all think about using two Duravent elbows to adapt the Harmon to my current vent location? Would that be too many elbows?

My current vent goes straight out through the wall to a cleanout T and then goes up about 7 feet to the vent cover. I really don't want to move the location of the existing vent and deal with a new hole, siding repair and all that would involve.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Think I'd raise the hearth platform with pavers to get the venting in line and dispense with the elbows. Remember, elbows reduce the flow of exhaust gases. You want as little directional flow interruption as possible.

If it was going straight out to the termination, I would say you would be fine (I did the same thing for my P43 and it works great) about . However, with that long vertical, although usually good for draft, may be an issue with this type of configuration.

IF you go ahead and try it, I would suggest a cleanout T inside also. Because I've never had the pleasure of using a T or elbow that didn't leak, I tape them up with Silicone tape. It is an easy remove when I I use the T to clean that section once per year.

The 2 X 45 deg. pipes will work
Mine I wanted the pipe to look as if it came from the center of the stove
and also the class A chimney I was going to use was already in the center of the alcove.
So a cleanout installed at 45 short pipe to 45 straight up to class a chimney. has worked
fine for the last 20 years

That's nearly exactly what mine would be, just shorter.

My current configuration is straight out through the exterior wall thimble to a cleanout T, then 4 feet of vertical to an elbow and vent cover.
If I do use an elbow to adapt to my current location, I think I would do with a cleanout T almost exactly your configuration. the only difference is on mine the piece connecting the T to the elbow would only be around 4 to 8 inches, so shorter than yours.

Question - In your setup with the cleanout and elbow, what is the distance between the back of the P43 and the wall? Since elbows add space I'm trying to figure if it would put the stove further out from the wall and if so, how much.

Thanks so much for your picture, it helps a lot!

It is 15" from the flange on the stove to the wall. There is an adapter, then the T, which gives me nearly 4" of clearance to the wall. The piece between the T and the elbow is 12"

I also have the stove on 2.5" thick pavers, above the hearth, which gave me exactly the height I needed to make this work.
