At $400 that is less than half price.

I would not buy a stove for now even if it appears to be a good deal and would really concentrate on the insulation of your cabin--get it tight with proper air circulation by way of vents or smaller windows.. I am not an expert here but would suggest a smaller stove that would do the job for the square footage involved...Shreveport LA is close to you and its gets cold at night time with the humidity as well but "really" not that cold--just uncomfortable in the 30's at times and if you have electricity it might do you well to just use a electric heater or something to take the chill off until you can decide on a proper stove with proper insulation for they have a huge variety out there including pellets stoves to check out---hold off insulate your home and then figure it all out...clancey

It has R13 in the 2x4 walls.
No Sheetrock yet.
Some of the ceiling/roof has R13 as well
Windows are 24x24
There are four windows.

Low to mid 20s is an average winter here.
But it got to zero in this freak snow storm last winter.

For that reason I don’t want to rely on electric heat as the power goes out often (I’m in the sticks).
I looked at DV heaters but a 20k btu unit is just about as much as a stove install.

i understand your situation here especially since that "freeze" in Texas awhile ago and people a lot of them were in misery...That is one reason why I got a wood stove to get ready for more coming emergencies without depending on electric service---I see your point but for that size go as best you can with your decision making and do not get too large of a wood stove. I had the same problem as you but I had a "open porch" with just a roof and I had to enclose it to make room for a wood burning stove "without electric dependence" all because of the Texas problem--terrible situation you people had there and also another problem is the "grid hacking" with not so bright people running our country.. Its a worrisome thing and the best we can do is to prepare ourselves especially if we are working with "little money"...Glad your cabin is insulated and has some windows as well...You will figure it all out but do not get something "too big" for the area of your home..I finally bought a bigger stove for my home because it had a nice cooking surface on it that could heat water and soup for survival if I had to use but had to open up my whole house with "french doors" to make the larger stove adequate instead of wasting wood and making it too hot and uncomfortable for me on the porch . I am not looking forward to trying it out for the first time because I am afraid of fire--lol I have my problems too...lol...But the date for try out is Sept 28th for my installer promised me he would light it...so that I can learn...Oh Lordy...Yea I understand just listen to the people on here about the right sizing for your area...So glad your have insulation and just figure it out and take your time with your thinking why it took me about 6 or 7 stoves to decide on the right one and I actually had to cancel two of them that I already paid for--terrible --but everything came out in the wash...Its a big decision and we all do not want to wind up in a warming station as well as being in a position to help our love ones in the coldest of winter coming up..I understand...old mrs clancey

The big difference I see with a DV heater is it turns off once the set temperature has been reached. Wood stoves require a bit more finesse. It's not impossible though.

I have a 24x32 log cabin with a loft & high ceilings and 12" of glass in the roof. UP of MI much different than TX but I have a 3.0 firebox. When we get TX type tempts outside, we make smaller fires. You should be fine with your warmer daytime temps & sunshine. Not many like to leave a warm bed in a cold house in the morning, but a quick scoot to build a fire and put the coffee pot on the stove is a good start to my day. Sounds like you made a good choice to me. Enjoy.
