Yes...I've heard of those...unfortunately I am one of those weirdos who react to electric, electro-magnetic etc.. I had to get rid of my metal Ikea bed frame. Once I'm in bed (layers of mats, plastic, bedding on the floor) I am ok. Warm socks and a toque helped me out last night. I think the electric oil-filled heater is malfunctioning because it worked fine before now.
It's all going to be ok...I just have to be patient and pray.. talk to my landlord with honesty and good intention in my heart. I'm giving God now..will lay it at his feet and get busy trying to get a part-time job etc.

Thank you and thanks to everyone. I really needed to hear from knowledgeable people to realize there's no hope for this ole stove. I'm going to monitor ReStore (Habitat for Humanity) for a stove and give my problem to God, knowing He will provide.

For the future: Remember that even a new stove is only as safe as the chimney system it is connected to.
agreed. I tried to price out some stovepipe at a hardware store, but I couldn't find the same kind of insulated section and I couldn't get anyone's attention to help me. Cart before the horse right now....no point in looking at this time.
Update.
Landlord says electrical bill is 'ridiculously high'. continues to insist the stove is fine. I've had burning eyes, metallic taste in my mouth extreme lethargy when it is lit (have to leave the front door open a crack or it goes out) plus a new crack is in the side (which he says isn't an issue). I'm not using it now.
He says my health issues are not his problem. Sadly, I've heard that from so many landlords over the years...e.g. when I report that I've found dangerous/deadly mould. In B.C., there is no mechanism to report and track mouldy residential homes or private businesses. I just move on or remediate if I have to (out of pocket).
I like my LL although we do not see eye on this wood stove issue.

He was going to convert to propane but is now considering natural gas.
Maybe that is because the kitchen stove/oven (an ancient magic chef) pilot light doesn't stay lit after it is hand sparked and I've asked him to fix it. He is pretty handy at that kind of stuff. I got a kick out of how he said 'look at it (oven), it's looks like it is brand new...is in great shape...I smiled and said "thank you! that's because I spent a full day cleaning it"

So....this Blaze King just popped up for sale for $400. That's in my price range. Any comments?

A whole whack of stoves are listed today that are close to my price range. I'll post them as a reply to this entry. Comments, opinions, jokes, emojis etc. welcome. I'm pretty sure that if I can get a decent stove for $500, LL will pay for stovepipe and chimney...but will still need gas/propane eventually. I'm COLD! Need heat. Mini-splits are appealing but they require a 30 amp breaker...not doable.

Aside from surface rust, the feet are good shape, oven is in very good shape, ash box needs replacing, I'd replace the oval stove pipe but it's usable for now. This is a great project as it should clean up fairly quickly and be usable. Or buy it for parts! Great option for the cabin, workshop etc.

If I were in your situation I would try to get 1 of the stoves in this listing
those are Pacific Energy looks like a super 27 or maybe a standard Begreen may know more. Both would have to be well inspected and cleaned up may take time .
The fisher honey bear would maybe a good choice as well Coaly would be the expert on that. It appears to be in good shape but would need to be checked out as well.
The blaze king maybe ok as well the rest I would stay away from.

I'm not sure if this is of any benefit to you, but there are many programs in BC for rebates to replace an old wood stove with a new EPA model, pellet stove, heat pump, or natural gas or propane heater. The details vary by region so you'll have to look that up based on where you live.

get anything at this point. the stove you are running now with a new crack sounds like it is sending carbon monoxide into your air. that is nothing to fool with. get a c/o detector (a new one) if your eyes are burning and you have no energy that's probably carbon monoxide poisoning. the fisher i think is gone hop on one of those pacific energy stoves or even the dutch west which looks newer than the rest. i don't know how it is up there in canada but down here all you have to do is call the fire dept. and they come in with a c/o meter and if there is a reading the stove gets put out and the owner gets notified.
