Can’t reach 500 degrees with direct connect insert

Hello!

I recently purchased a Regency 1500i and installed a 4’ 6”ss liner as a direct connect to my exterior clay tile flue chimney.

I’m having a hard time getting the temp probe to reach 500 degrees so I can active the catalyst. Is the because I didn’t run the stainless steel liner all the way up through the chimney or something else like wet wood?

The direct-connect could very well be the issue, especially if the chimney throat is large. Most likely the liner should be insulated too. There are safety issues with this type of connection too.

What is the dimension of the chimney throat? How tall is the chimney? Is it tile-lined?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. As was suggested I purchased a small bundle of kiln dried firewood this morning and what a difference! I easily hit 525 in 20 minutes then once I activated the cad it went up to 580. Apparantly the "dry" firewood I use isn't so dry after all and this is my issue.

So moving forward I will be planning on purchasing these small bundles of kiln to get my cad up to temp, however these are very expensive so here is my follow up question. Once the cad is active (with my kiln bundle wood) can I just continue feeding the stove with my other "dry" firewood throughout the day/night? The manual says something about getting the temp back up to 500 every time new wood is added, but I feel like once the cad is activated it doesn't go out. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for any/all assistance!

You need dry wood no way around it. And yes you need to get it back up to temp with every load

The wood you have now should work quite well next year.
