Hi -

I'm getting a vacuum switch error on my Quadrafire AE Mt. Vernon insert. I bypassed the switch and the stove came on fine. However, the exhaust fan (the fan that sucks the smoke up the chimney) does not appear to be working and smoke was pouring out of the fan without going out the chimney, although the fan seemed to be spinning (smoke began pouring into the room). What should be my steps in order to resolve?

Thanks, Lee

If the combustion fan is not working I'd start there
If the fan works I would do a full cleaning from the air
intake to the end of the chimney every nook and cranny
in fact, I'd do a full cleaning anyway first thing
sounds like the stove or chimney is plugged

Thanks! I'll start with the cleaning. :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just did the cleaning this morning - the flue was almost completely blocked as was the fan. I usually clean system thoroughly at least once per year and have never seen a build-up like this before. After a complete cleaning I removed the jumper from the vacuum switch and I'm completely back in business. Thanks for the advice!

Glad to hear you are up and running
A clean stove is a happy stove
