In The Woods
A day early but hopefully it will be a good year for everyone.

This part of the cherry came down a few storms ago when we had the wet heavy snow, I bucked it up today and then put it under a pine tree until I split it. I also shoveled part of a stacking area so I can stack it with some other cherry from this fall.

Do some processing of big rounds and uglies with the splitter today. I enjoy splitting by hand but it's nice to use the splitter every so often.

Are you in for a storm?

I called my wood guy a few days ago. Early awaiting my first log drop. He said "in a day or two" which I've learned over the years for him means wherever he gets to it usually 1-2 weeks. No complaints though as it's usually A+ stuff.

I just want to buck baby !!!

Some of the cherry got split and the smaller rounds stayed that way, I'll be looking for a damaged tree or trees that will allow me to finish this two face cord stack.

It's a 2022 score, but it'll be 2023 work.
"Good" is when you get about six cords (? pics don't do it justice)...200 ft. from where you stack! 😃
Logs on the ground, Ash, Cherry, Oak.

It was a nice day temp wise so I decided to cut the rest of the pine down that we planned on burning in January. Sooner or later the temps will get colder so maybe tomorrow we'll put some beech in, the hard rains yesterday/last night got some of the ends wet so we'll get it in, that way it will be dry when we burn it.

With the colder temps the ground got a little more solid so I took the Mrs down to the tree service pasture and got a load of ash and a little birch. Should be about a cord. Piles there are getting a little tougher to access "good" stuff. Lots of pine and box elder on the edges, gotta search a bit for "good" stuff.

This should put me at about 13 full cord or so, should be close to 3 years ahead again. Definitely have 3 years of shoulder season wood and "premium" hardwood (beech, honey locust, ironwood, sugar maple, etc), might not have quite 3 years of everyday "mid grade" hardwood (ash, cherry, walnut, elm, birch, etc).

Back and arms are a bit sore, so not going to overdo it. Unload tomorrow and css Monday with the boys.

Today is the day I started to replace hoses on the backhoe attachment. It's been down for 5 years or more. Couldn't get the pin out of the boom cylinder so I had to improvise. I have to get some wire on tags so I know what hose goes where when I pull them off. Need to get the hoe running so I can put in some drainage where I'm going to set up my processing station. I'm getting too old for this shiz!

Gont in 1st scrounge of 2023. Buddy that has a ranch is letting me scrounge his (goatwoods). First time in my life I've had a cow watching me buck trees. She was nice. Got full load of shagbark hickory and mulberry. I've never split or burnt shagbark before but gotta say it's on my top easiest woods to split now. Hoping to take some more outta there

It's exciting having a new wood to try isn't it!? I have honey locust, ironwood and hickory seasoning that I am stoked to try for the first time. My first time with beech was a very nice experience.

Wood looks good...cow looks delicious!

Your too much of a meat eater Caw and that cow looks beautiful with its pretty face and don't forget about the beautiful milk these creatures give you.. Scenery is pretty and I have not seen a cow in a lot of years--nice to imagine being there and petting it....good pictures everyone..clancey

I'm sure he's a nice cow. No reason he can't fulfill both things we enjoy about them!
Medium rare to medium has a beauty all its own, when the time comes.

With some warmer daytime temps coming in, we put in another two loads of pine. Looking at the long range forecast, Accu finally has some single digit temps coming in the night of Jan. 23, we'll start getting some beech in before.

Today I ran the sooteater up and down the chimney, not much came out which was nice.
