Went to a few different stores and found 2 new brands of pellets.

1st is a New Pine bedding pellet. $5 a bag. Little pricey, but if they burn like some I seen 3 yrs ago. They may be worth it :) Plus they Smell AWESOME!!! All natural. No additives, chemicals, or perfumes. Oh and these are very small. Very similar to Somersets sizing :) (waiting on haters :()

2nd was another new pellet. Or so I thought. I just grabbed 5 bags and threw them in the cart. Got home, only to realize that they are AWF's. The bags are completely redesigned. The new Softwood AWF resembles more of what the old hardwood bag looked like. Although they seem very small this year :) That's always a good thing

Here is hoping the AWF's burn even better than before (good pellet already) and that the Pine Bedding burns great too. I got 5 bags of each. Will update thread with a review after burning.

I may even clean the Quad. Ash pan is invisible!!!

Hope they work out. I tried some pine pellets last year made by a lumberyard and sold as bedding pellets....didn't work out so well for me.

The only downside to burning bedding pellets here in CT is that they are a taxable item. I have over a dozen horse customers who buy fuel pellets from me because they are not taxable. Actually, it is my responsibility to tax the item, regardless of the label, if I am aware that it is being used in a manner inconsistent with its labeling, but you would not belive the paperwork involved. So, actually, I have no horse customers who use it as bedding, or something like that.

Nope, no horse buying pellets here :) lol

My sister inlaw has 3 horses. I cry every time she dumps a bag on the ground.
Just think how her horses feel when they see you burning their mattress!

Many bedding manufacturers are just fuel manufacturers that switch the bags when they package the bedding. The label may say something like "100% pure wood with no binders or additives" but the reality is that this also holds true for the fuel pellets as well. Same thing, different bag. Especially when they box kitty litter, they will put it in a 20lb. box and sell it for $13.99. Quite often the same stuff, but the bedding is often more expensive and sometimes in 30 lb. bags.

Stopped into the local fireplace store this weekend. Was just snoopin' around looking at the Lopi inserts. They had one burning and it was giving some great heat. I asked what they were burning for pellets, answer, Maximum Hardwood Pellet. They had a bucket filled with them on the floor and if you saw these , they were so light in color and did not have one speck of black in them I would swear they were softwood, uh uh said the salesman, 100% hardwood. Anyone heard of these?

Check my sig. Made by LG.

Only bought 2 bags to try. Haven't burned any.

Hey! Are you picking up what I'm puttin' down?!?!?!

$270. a ton here, deal or no deal.

I paid $5.50/bag. I think the per ton price was $265. I believe it was JT that said this was LG's version of 100% hardwood pellets.

I'm going to pick up a few bags and try this weekend. Thanks for the input.

I plan on trying them whenever we get some cold weather.

Horse pellets suck when you have concrete stall floors. It is like walking on marbles and wetting them down in winter is not an option.

I got 4free bags to try a few years ago before we had a pellet stove. I would burn them if I had them now.
