That's a great idea! I've been thinking of installing a truck bed hoist/crane in my bronco for lifting big rounds. I need to come up with some plans for reenfircement under the floor

I thought about making something like this to drop into the stakepocket on Ol Blue
Rather than having to screw with a base just use a pipe with a saddle welded on top and drop it down the square tube in the stake pocket.
I just gotta figure out how to get the screws holding the boards out of the way.

We're doing a 5 1/2 hour German opera tonight. 28 minutes is nothing. I did have to watch without sound though. The guy must talk alot! Even without sound he over explains the thing. A good idea, but that little lazy susan on the bottom looks like a week spot to me.

I think it would be easier to crack that round in half with a maul and throw it on the truck!

Neither. Stagehand. Well, I do have to watch when I point my followspot at the singers. I read and post on web forums in between cues.

Parsifal? Any good? I might see the simulcast somewhere local. We saw Rigoletto the other week and enjoyed it.

Parsifal is EPIC! Started tonight at 6pm and just ended as I type this. Some of Wagner's most beautiful music, but pretty hard core deep and slow stuff. Rigoletto is just about the total opposite.

You and me both. I don't go to the movies cause I almost always end up falling asleep.

By epic, I mean it moves at a glacial pace. Wonderful music. A story of spiritual growth. It may be a little like watching trees grow. But they are beautiful trees. If you do check it out, be sure to let me know what you thought of it.

Just got back home from seeing it. I think I nodded off very briefly during each act. The story's not that complex, but it does move very slowly. The music and singers were great. I can't say I totally liked the modern dress, though. Rigoletto was in Vegas. Maybe I'm a traditionalist at heart, though I have seem much opera. The lighting was great. Was that you?

I am one of the guys who works on the lighting. Was it me? Sort of. I also prefer more traditional opera. Unfortunately, most of the new productions look more like the last two you saw. At least the musicians and singers are always excellent. Nodding off to Wagner is not such a bad thing. I had some of the most incredible dreams while sleeping through act two of Tristan Und Isolde. Thanks for the follow up. And thanks for supporting my employer. We need the money.

After watching the youtube video a couple times I decided to build one.
Although I have plenty of recycled lumber and several swivel bearings salvaged from swivel base cabinet TVs, I decided to go a different way.

This round weighed 105 lbs on my bathroom scale.



Breaks down into 4 easy to handle pieces.



The head is part of an old C band satellite dish mount.
The pipe is 6'4"
The boom is an 8' section of old rusty barn door track.
The pivot point is 26.5" from the end and gives about 44" of lift range.
There is no bearing in the top, it just rides on the top of the pipe.
