I had a couple of fellows from Europe in our store yesterday and during our conversation pellet stoves worked it's way into our meeting. Pellet stoves are very popular in Germany and Italy and pellets are regulated by the government and are produced to strict standards. The gent's also told me very little sediment (ash) and lots of heat;ex
After converting euros to US dollars they were talking like 12-15 bucks a bag!!!!!!. I said HOLY COW!! that's alot of money_g. They politely stated that it saved that lots of euros compared to electric or gas. Now I know why my Palazzetti Pizza stove is so efficient. What do you guys and gals think, would you spend 12 bucks a bag;?

Gas/Oil cost in the States may be expensive for us but in other countries it's a LOT more. I wouldn't pay $12 in the States, but if I was in another country, I would. All subjective to where you are located.

Over there probably Yes

It kills me when I hear people say, "man, why doesn't our goverment do something about the price of oil?" for a few reasons.
1. Domestically, energy costs ARE much lower than they are in most other places of the world. Here is a prime example!
2. Even if it was that job of the goverment to "price fix" commodities, to think that our goverment is so powerful, that they could control a GLOBALLY traded commodity is silly at best.
3. Everyone wants an "easy" fix. Maybe some things in life are not fair. Some people find this out much later in life than others do. Me?....I found this out at a pretty early age. To put it into perspective.....$15/bag (or $750/ton makes SIB's $230/ton with a nominal delivery charge seem like a give-away! Long live pellets!

This is why we do not want Government control over everything we do!

Bill

US oil prices are VERY cheap compared to just about everywhere but Saudi and Venezula. But, no one wants to live there....

Uk is paying as much as 1 pound and 40 shillings a litre. there's 3.78 litres in a gallon.
so thats 5.30 pounds per gallon.
at roughly 1.4:1 exchange rate, thats $7.40 a gallon for petrol.
deisel is more, too, just like here.

We're still mostly under $4 a gallon here in the states. So, elsewhere they are paying 'about' double for oil use.

at $10 a bag converted, its still cheaper to burn pellets.

Using this page and the high price of $269
euros per ton $5.38 a bag
It works out to $7.01 US per bag or$ 350.50 per ton. Saw Cubix and Northerns
At my local CO OP for $ 6.99 a bag Sunday Dam near chocked
I pay $ 4.50 abag delivered $225 a ton
I paid almost $8. bucks for a bag of Big Heats 2 weeks ago. A couple of guys stated on this forum, during the winter there local hardware stores were selling pellets at $10. - $11. a bag!!!

I know where you got them. He's a ripoff. Same for the other brand of pellets he had.

I have a question or two
1 Why do we have to compare to the rest of the World ? Is it just a way to justify higher prices?
2 I just read that we USA are the #2 Oil Producing Country yet no relief at the pump lets face it its GREED !
3 If We are to be compared to the rest of the World then why arent THEY Policing "The World "
4. SIB has been a fair fellow but a GOOD SHopper compares sometimes you find something as good if not better for the same price...sometimes you dont !

according to your info, looking at $351.20 US (wholesale) , no mention of the 40%goverment import_g tax added to this price
Germany has no forests and pellet mills ?

Germany has forests but the trees are full of bullets and shrapnal ;)

There's no relief at the pump because crude oil is an international commodity and so despite our substantially increased domestic production and continued trend of less demand here in the US, international demand still is relatively high and growing. So whenever you hear some politician or oil lobbyist claiming more domestic supply will lower prices here, assume they're full of sh*t.

That said, I couldn't agree more that we cannot continue to be the world's police man. I fail to see the return on the investment and we can't afford to do it any longer anyway.

Why is gasoline so cheap in Saudi Arabia? They sell on the international level too

.

Gas is cheap in saudi arabia because it doesn't have to be shipped across an ocean to a refinery. that's a big cost.

We also aren't using hardly any of our own oil for consumer use. it's being stored in massive underground wells. For when the arabs run out of oil, we will still have some to bring war and devestation world wide and such...
